Yes, god bless Roy, but I believe next years draft would benefit from either a cap on pre-draft moves or judicious use of the veto. If only because several of the least responsible GMs then predictably left town. A fair argument could be made that CelticMaestro for one deserves compensatory picks, the state of that franchise is a joke.

Yeah...  it's a tough call.  I actually love the pre-draft trades (perhaps for obvious reasons).  I think there needs to be *some* mechanism other than just trades during the draft, because five minutes between picks just isn't enough time to work anything out.

As for inactive managers...  I'm not sure what the solution is.  wdleehi announced this, and then bumped the topic multiple times each day in order to put together a good roster of owners.  Yet, people didn't come through.  It's disappointing.

That said, it would seem Roy, rather than put his foot on the league's throat, has been pretty conservative, picking up some of the most coveted and well rounded young talent in the league, but eschewing swing for the fences picks - no cornerstone players or championship winners. This years title is still up for grabs, 2011-12 probably not...

I'm managing this like I would a real franchise, and am building for now *and* the future.  It will be a young starting five, but we'll fill in with vets off the bench.  I could have had a team with Amare and Wade, but this team -- while not being as sexy -- is built to function as a unit, rather than just as flashy parts.

This is only year two.  This game can be adjusted next year.

But I don't see the reason to cap moves.

It's all part of the fun, really...

It's like an elaborate and more technical version of having trading cards.

Yep.  It's all about starting with a Wally Pip, and ending up with a couple of Mickey Mantles.

I'm a first year owner, and have only made two picks so take my opinion as that:

- I think it might be best to both change the time of the draft to a later point each night, or open up to a site that is less likely to be firewalled at people's work.

- As mentioned before, 5 minutes is really, really tough on the owners. I went through one trade to go down and then attempted another. It's hard because you really don't have time to negotiate at all. Teams offer you a trade, and you really only have time to say 'yes' or 'no' and nothing more than that. On my second pick I actually tried to do some negotiating, but between that, and the owner behind me PM'ng me over and over to pick fast and offering a list of "good players" communication broke down, and suddenly my pick fell 2 spots so in a panic I took a player who I thought to be the best available (though he doesn't fit the style of basketball I was trying to pick around).

-The predraft trades are difficult. I think a lot of us rookie owners were hesitant because we've never really gone through the drill before. Pre-planning of course does help, but it's still tough w/o experience.

-As I mentioned in the Draft Board, I think when you have to pick is a little confusing. I assumed that a pick started at the time given to a team, and owners could only start drafting when their 'assigned' time is up. Maybe I'm the only one who got lost but I figured it must be somewhat of a misconception.

I go out and three players I was eyeing for my third rounder (Granger, Wallace and Calderon are gone). Darn it all.  ;D

Commissioner Wdleehi was clearly diligent about putting together the best group of GMs he could, and he did a great job of that. It's likely just impossible for a 30 team league with a month long draft to entirely screen out feckless managers. Which is partly why I suggested that a cap - not ban - on pre-draft trades be considered next year; that or a more judicious use of the veto, though I know both go against the predominate Cetlicsblog fantasy draft philosophy.

To me, the need is for more time between picks, but then it becomes harder to have the whole draft covered by someone who can update the board.

If we go to 10 minutes, the draft would be 5 hours long each day.

wdleehi is doing a great job.  It's not like he's getting paid to do this.  He basically takes all our nutty trades and updates the board and keeps everything running smoothly.   He's doing fantastic.

For people who were concerned about the "pre draft trades".  Look... if you can't develop a strategy or have the know-how to find a fantasy draft board on the internet... you probably shouldn't be participating in the first place.   Pro-tip:  Google "Fantasy basketball" or something.

there's a large difference between fantasy basketball and a 30 team league.

And it's not a ridiculous thought to say there should be a cap. You have teams out there who are just ridiculously stacked by great trades by them and horrendous trades for the other team. I understand stuff like this happens in real life but it seems like there's just a few too many absurd trade offers.
