That doesn't mean much. I wouldn't be surprised if the team ends up with a different name.

Terrible choice. If they're going to name themselves this, send them to the WNBA.

A few weeks ago I remember a number of reports of websites being registered and redirecting to the NBA's official site.  I don't know if this is any more credible than those, but I think this particular name is getting closer to being a reality.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

They need a name that is plural.

I agree, maybe I'm just quirky but, I don't like team names that don't end in s's!

...and I had all my hopes set on Thundercats  :'( , oh well. At least it gives the chance of a few thundercats chants at games (Hey maybe they could call the fans or cheerleaders or something the thundercats).

Miami Heat is a solid name that doesn't end in an "s", although I share the same preference myself.

Oklahoma City Thunder .... jeez it's a mouthful isn't it? That's the real problem.

I thought they were going away from names that showed the region in bad light. Like hurricanes and the sort, is Thunder really a step up?

Since thunder is the plural of thunder, maybe instead of "The Olkahoma City Thunder" they should be "Some Oklahoma City Thunder"?

Thinking about it...I think that's pretty awesome.  I can imagine a promo with Robert Swift looking dramatically at the camera and saying, "Who wants to see Some Thunder tonight?!...Some OKLAHOMA CITY Thunder!"  Or even better Serge Ibaka or Mouhamed Sene (assuming they have thick African accents).  I'm fired up just thinking about it.

I had seen that they were considering "Barons" as their nickname last week, complete with photos of uniforms (really nice black and gold uniforms).  I guess that was short for Oil Barons.  Who knows.  I liked that better though.

Thunder's kinda lame, I think.

I wrote that post without thinking, it just seems weird with names that don't end in an 's' sounding syllable.

I actually like that name. Thunder...something loud-like you want your fans to be and Dominant like you want your players to be

I am sure they would be able to market that name in many ways.

Oh no, I know what you meant but I think not having the "s" and showing plural in a different way makes it sound pretty cool
