Sad to see him go, but definitely didn't want him for more than 3 years.

Let's ignore position, and see who the best free-agents are right now. Anybody got a list?

Gomes and Delonte anyone? :D

I'm fine with this for some reason...we need cap flexibility for 2010.

I expect this to start a ball rolling with some other names though...

You risk winning in the next couple of year (which is the window btw) for cap space in 2010?

TP BankShot. People don't seem to understand that our core is old and has a very small window. But who cares, Wyc will make more money now. Yay. And who needs Posey and House? I mean the lineup of House, Ray, Pierce, Posey, and KG that won us gm 4 in LA... I'm sure Lue, Ray, Pierce, O'Bryant, and KG will be just as good ::) I mean the Sox won the WS and replaced Cabrera and Lowe with Renteria and Clement and they repeated in 2005 right?

Everyone trusts Danny. He has a perfect track record. i'm sure he'll brin in someone great like Googs or pollard or raef, or dickau or scalabrine, or blount or wally or banks or gerald or payton.

Good for him. He never had to come here to begin with, but did and helped us win a title.

4 years at the full MLE is going to have him set for life. Way too much for a bench player, but hey, winning a title increases your value.

I do think Posey got more than he's worth, but maybe if Ainge hadn't offered him only 2 years to begin with and offered 3 instead, maybe he would have taken it since no one had offered him 4 years until now.  I just think it was a mistake to offer him only 2 years in the initial offer.  Probably ticked him off.

Danny is a risk taker and he had his $$$ limits re signing Posey and House.  Wyc intimated that Danny had other moves in mind which I expect we'll be seeing in the very near future.  Will Barnes be in the mix?  How about Miles?  Does this mean that Giddens and Walker will be on the roster?  Scal remains at the end of the bench...which new rookie will supplant him?  A contract buyout?  Is Childress under our radar?  Will we save a roster spot for Marbury or another mid season acquisition (ala last year?)

I want to make this clear though.  I hope nobody believes this is Ainge being "cheap" or the owners being "cheap".  This isn't about lowballing Posey.  It's not about that.  Obviously they felt that the MLE would be better spent elsewhere and believed that giving Posey 4 years would be an unintelligent decision.   This team has some holes that still need to be filled and the MLE is one of the only pieces of flexibility we currently have to fill those needs.  Hopefully now we can bring in a suitable replacement or split the MLE to some players who can help us in our quest for #18.

If anyone is freaking out right now, I suggest you just take a step back and wait until we see what Ainge does with the MLE.  Posey's become a little overrated by most people here.  We'll be fine.

Lets not overreact! Posey was an awesome bench player... but the FA season is just getting started! Don't pull a Bob Ryan and write off the team while they still have the full MLE and free agents hoping to join the team.

I like (by like I mean that sarcastically) the way Marc Stein explains the Celtics reasoning

Quote
Because of luxury-tax concerns, Boston was reluctant to offer Posey, 31, more than a two-year deal in spite of his considerable contributions to the Celtics' first championship since 1986.

I think we would of gotten it done for 3 yrs, but Wyc got his trophy. I think repeating isn't as important as getting back to making more money. He's looking to buy the LA Kings now. Why waste money on repeating when you can spend that money on buying a LA team ::)

You can't turn on these guys already. Wyc has earned more faith than that, and even without Posey he will almost certainly hit the luxury tax. Thats a dollar for dollar tax he will almost certainly pay because he allowed Danny to make the play for Allen and Garnett. Danny will figure somethin out.

If I'm Danny I would be taking a long hard look at West, Barnes, Ross, and Childress.

In related news the Celtics have traded the hero of game 2 against the Lakers
http://lexnihilnovi.blogspot.com/2007/12/gerald-henderson-bitter-after-trade-to.html

Will we ever return to championship form, who the heck is going to replace Henderson? Danny Stinking Ainge?

Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing

That city, especially considering the circumstances and issues surrounding it, is going to absolutely fall in love with James Posey.

I can't think of a city (besides boston, of course!) that will come to adore and respect his passion, grit, intelligence, effort, and general talent more than New Orleans.

He will be a terrific mentor and teammate for David West, Ty Chandler, Jannero Pargo, and even Chris Paul.  Paul has already become the hands-down team leader on that club, but i think you're going to see a big brother type-relationship emerge between him and POZ.

Good luck, James.  Whatever the final financial figures are, you most definitely deserve every last bill.

Still no Barnes.  He is Scali with a better shot, but not as good defensively.
