Ironic isn't it?

First time in Carlisle's head coaching career he's going to loosen the reigns and let his players make decisions on the court. Give them some freedom to express themselves.

What do they give him to make it work? The Idiot

This is a match made in heaven.

If Green can't figure out how to cut to the basket for easy dunks set by Jason Kidd he never will. Heck, Josh Howard is still trying to figure that much out, how much hope do you give Green?

This is the wrong situation for him. He needs someone to nurture him and teach him how to play the game. Somebody who'll keep him away from games from a full season and just teach him the basics of the game. Does Carlisle have that type of track record anywhere? I can't think of anyone of the top of my head.

I don't like this move for Gerald. Wrong decision. He needed to get this one right. This could be his last chance in the NBA. Doesn't feel right.

Right now I'm sure he gets off the bench in Dallas and I'm doubtful they have the teachers there to change that for the future.

Rick Carlisle is going to love him.

LOL. Exactly my first thought when I read the title. Talk about a mismatch. Well, he could have gone to Charlotte...

What are you talking about?  Did Gerald have a ton of options here, where the choice to "get it right" was his?

If Gerald can convince Carlisle to play him (meaning Gerald will have to prove he can play a bit of defense at least), he should really benefit from Jason Kidd setting the table for him.

I don't understand your question - Did Gerald have a ton options? I'm not sure what you mean.

Are you talking about teams that were interested in signing him?

I don't know for sure. What I do know is that he signed for the veteran minimum on the first day of free agency instead of waiting three days which he easily could have to find out the answer. It's not like Dallas would pull a vet minimum offer over three days. I'd be surprised if Gerald didn't get 3-4 offers this summer. I thought Houston might offer him a contract, Morey sounded interested in re-signing him if possible this summer.

I can't believe it's going to be year four for this guy.  Really stunning.

While I'm not expecting much at this point, I certainly wish him all the best.  So far as I understand it, he was never a jerk when he was in green -- just a somewhat immature kid (welcome to being 18, folks) who hadn't developed his BB IQ or much else so far as refining his game is concerned.  If he can get it right in Dallas, I'll be happy to applaud him.

He's not going to get any burn in Dallas behind Josh Howard, Stackhouse, Eddie Jones, Terry, and Kidd........

He will forever be a bench warmer......

Well, I'm glad Gerald got another shot. This should be in a good situation for him. He gets to stay close to home in Texas, and he's put around a group of veterans that can help him both on the court and mentally. Not to mention, an experienced coach in Rick Carlisle, who puts an emphasis on defense. Looking at the Mavericks roster, I'm not sure where he fits as far as playing time is concerned, but I certainly wish him well and hope he at least gets a chance to play at some point.

Good luck, Gerald.

He'll only get that chance if earns it everyday in practice. And given his track record and competition ahead of him, that's highly unlikely. Big Baby has a better chance of making the cover of next year's SI swimsuit issue.

Yes, it's being negative, but Dallas will join Boston, Minnesota, and Houston as just one more stop on the out-of-the-league train for Gerald. Next stop, parts unknown.

I'm happy for Gerald.  Hope it works out for him.  He won't ever be the next T-Mac but he could still turn himself into a decent role player.  Best of luck to him.

Good for Gerald, I thought he would have been better then what he has showed...the bigger question is which team is next and which if any, will he evolve into a better player.

How many team did Chauncey play for before finally "getting" it..and no I am not comparing him to Chauncey..are there any other players out there with a history of not getting it early on and developing into super talents later on?

Steve Nash has peaked very late in his career, could be because of the Phoenix system. He was a 14/7 guy in Dallas (I might be understanding) and then turned into an 18/11 guy with the Suns.

Billups and Nash have some natural intelligence.

To put it as kindly as I can, Gerald doesn't.

He's got no place on any roster that's trying to win. I look for Dallas to take a look at him in training camp, then cut him.

Hold on a second.... OK, there's no Dallas in the Ukraine, Portugal, Italy or Finland, so I guess it really is the Mavericks.

Uh, Rick Carlisle is known to be pretty detail oriented and a task master... still would bet he'll be playing with or against our 2nd round pick at some point in the next 12mths...

It is not the worst fit.

He can hit an outside shot and he can catch a Kidd pass on the fast break and dunk.
