I hope that at the least we can get a sign and trade with Tony Allen. I'd be disapointed if we let him go for nothing. Signing Tony Allen in theory should help move Scal's contract in some sort of package. Looking at our current roster, we might be better served trying to package Tony, Scal, and Baby in a move that hopefully brings us some sort of Center (assuming we go full MLE on Posey). Baby is a free-agent next season, same as Powe... and I think that the team will be forced to keep one or the other, so moving him should be done together with Scal if the opportunity comes along.
I'd be interested in seeing how the PG situation unfolds and what PGs show interest in joining the Celtics for the vet. min. or around that. I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that we'll be able to keep House. And believe it or not, we might be better off keeping Tony Allen as our back-up PG for the time being, even though I'd hate to see him in that role again.
But, I could imagine a PG-SG combination of Giddens and Tony causing some real damage off the bench. I think they could be a handful playing together. Offensively with penetration and hopefully racking up fouls, with Powe in there for good measure and then Posey as a kickout option. I know it won't look pretty, but it might just be effective with high energy play. Then we go to the defensive side of it. Tony could cause problems to smaller guards, Giddens and his long arms could be quite effective, then we have Posey... I would love to see how a defensive unit with those 3 guys would look.
I also think that keeping Tony could be key in having a really effective small line up when needed. Because then you can bring Rondo, and have Tony and Giddens running down the floor looking for easy buckets, move Posey to the 4, and have Garnett at the 5, and we know he runs the floor well. That could be a highly energetic unit.
Again, I'd love to know more on how Pruitt's development is going and on how comfortable the team is with him. Because if he's not up to the task, then surely we need a good back-up PG. But if he is up to the task, keeping Tony might be our best option just for the match-up problems we could cause and his value in being capable of playing various positions.
