The get to know J.R. Giddens thread.

The fact that he's 23 is being overlooked.  A friend of mine says he was a hot HS prospect.  He hasn't put it together in 4 years.  What makes you think he can in the pros?

I never really heard of him before tonight....I definitely haven't seen him, CDR, or Chalmers as much as Danny and Celtic scouts, so I'll put some trust in them....at least enough to wait out and see how he fits.

I just can't get over shooting worse than 60% from the line as a 23 year old.  How many good NBA 2-guards shot worse than 70% from the line, never mind 60%.  So bad.

Dude, just look at the change in Rondo's shooting since last year, and even during this season. Giddens is a monster. If playing on a team with KG, Paul, and Ray doesn't get his head on straight, then it was a bad pick.  If he learns, and works, then he'll be one of the steals of the draft.

To add on to the last point, look at PP too.  His free throw shooting went up 5 percent b/c he changed his stance.  Get someone to work with Giddens and have him change what he does at the line, never know might see him get somewhere up around 70 percent.  (I figure expecting more than that is a bit much.)

danny has earned my trust...i'll take his side on this one.

let's not forget that we really don't "need" this kid to provide much this season...if he does fine.

tony allen's fate was probably just sealed on this pick...

I'll trust Danny's drafting prowess over any of the "experts" on the draft sites, on ESPN, or on here.  If Danny thinks the kid can help, then that's good enough for me.

Thats really the bottom line here.  Danny has pulled guys out of nowhere before.  I think he has earned the benefit of the doubt by now.

Besides, the way this draft was so all over the place should show just how out of touch these experts are some times.

He has put it together. He was conference player of the year this year and he was amazing to watch.

Rondo was 21 last year.  Giddens is 23.  He's already had a ton of time to fix his shot.  Ain't happenin'.

I don't think Danny wanted a first rounder. They tried to sell the pick, but probably weren't even offered the mil NO got, so Danny takes JR and looks at him for the Summer. If he has somehow matured and can help, he signs him. If he's unsure he doesn't sign him, but if Danny really didn't want a pick in the first place, I guess that won't matter to him. I guess you could also say he's contract leverage with Posey (maybe Tony Allen too). So if we save 1 million on a Posey contract, I guess that's the same as selling the pick. For the record i think selling picks for cash only is stupid, but I guess it's a reality. I would be interested in hearing what people think of this paragraph.

I do love his rebounding.  But the FT% just can't be overlooked.  As a 23 year old, it points to serious problems.  It basically means you can't shoot (it's worse than Rondo for crying out loud).  And/or he doesn't/won't work on it, as if he had a great shooter within him, coaches would have corrected this by now.  It's just so [dang]ing.

We're going to regret passing on CDR/Chalmers.. I'll bet good money on it. 

Maybe, but I think Giddens is a solid pick, and I trust Danny on this.  I am hoping we can weasel in on Hendrix or Hardin...

Yeah i think tony might be gone. If there a team who wants to sign him up now i dunno if danny will do much to stop that.

Giddens was a huge high school prospect before he got into trouble etc. The last two years he looks like he cleaned up

He has vince carter written all over him, he can fly , shoot the threes but also defend well

He was drafted in the first round.  I think that means he has to be signed for at least 2 years, maybe 3.  He isn't better than Chalmers or Weaver who I would have liked to seen us take.  Remember he was at Kansas one time and left for a reason. He a good college player but I don't think he'll be any better than TA.
