Did anyone else feel really good for Tony Allen, after that allyoop by House? I know the guy took a lot of knocks for being a knucklehead, and i sometimes hold my breath when i see him go handling the ball BUT didn't it seem good to see the explosion in his jump with that play.
It might have been his last dunk as a Celtic.

That and the Big Baby dunk put tears in my eyes. Very special for those guys.

I think you're right. I'm not sure Tony comes back next season. I think they should hold on to him. I think he'd be a nice cost effective bridge between Ray as he declines and the next generation of Celtics. He's a great defender and he's shown that he can be useful on offense.

I've been singing this tune for the whole season and playoffs... I don't see any reason to part ways with Tony Allen at the moment, especially for nothing. I've said it a couple of times, that Tony has played very good/decent basketball during the playoffs, but many brushed me off. And what does he do? In the biggest stage he comes up with two vey solid games back to back.

There's still hope with this guy, and with his level of skillsets, he should be very affordable and very very hard to replace with our financial situation. He also plays defense... hard to find guys like that. Don't undereestimate the impact of keeping most of this group together after a year of experience playing with each other.

I agree we should give tony one more year to see if he can fully recover both physically and mentally from that disastrous injury. I still remember how he was tearing up defensesat the time of his injury. He reminds me he looked like Rondo looks when Rondo decides to bring his best to a game. One more year; one more year, and we wont regret it.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

feel the same way. as much heat as he gets, he has tools that are not only needed but are actually in short supply around the league. his defense and penetrating ability are very valuable and i definitely hope he is back next season.

i think he will be healthier and as a result be able to get back some of that explosiveness that we have seen from him in past seasons.

i actually hope we bring the almost the whole roster back.

Rondo/House/Gabe
Ray/TA
Paul/Posey
KG/Powe/BBD/Scal
Perk/Pollard type (heck i would even bring him back if he seems healty)

add in a couple of draft picks and then just like this season let PJ Brown re-un-retire for the final weeks of the regular season to have another huge offseason run at another Title.

to go off topic for a sec....how freaking huge was PJ in this playoff run. i mean, i had no idea that he still had that in him. and if he can step in like that with so little PT during the season, why not do that again...

anyway, i am very happy for TA and i think what he did in game 5 more than last night showed that he actually is a talented player who still has not hit his stride in the league yet..

Exactly.

Why is everyone now thinking about trading, signing some untested players?

As I was reading here we have really good prospect in Gabe Pruitt...

WHY we need to change winning formula? WHY ?

I agree. Maybe we (including I) should start thinking with confidence that the Celtics were the best this year, and stop thinking about how other teams will improve, and how we need to improve just as much, and be against staying with the original roster.

A few minor tweaks + the drafts are all that's needed, maybe sign a free agent, maybe two, and draft a guy. With Sam and PJ probably leaving, it's pretty likely we can live with a few new players, and 2 or 3 leaving.

2 thoughts:

#1 - That was one of the sickest dunks I have seen in a very long time. I don't know if it was the timing of it in the blowout stages of the game, the fact that TA has been injured, that House threw the lob, or what, but that is a long-term highlight clip. Unbelievable play.

#2 - That being said, it seems funny that one little play would change so many people's opinion about TA. I still hold to the fact that he is a very athletic player that will never completely return to his former self. (That play made me think though) He made a great athletic play, but he is still a low basketball IQ player that we should package out to another team and get something in return for. He is too turnover prone and can't shoot the ball from the outside. Not what you need from a guard.

That being said, see #1!! Nasty dunk!!

With his bird rights and RFA, and the fact that he should be 100% healthy (and the fact that he can sit on the end of the bench and not play without causing problems) TA should be brought back.

C's only have so many avenues to get players in here, MLE, LLE, Bird Rights, Trades, Draft: TA is at least good enough to be on the bench and useful fill in, and he's effectively free (assuming the owners aren't worried about money.)

That being said: C's 100% should look to upgrade everywhere possible, while we fans are in love with the guys on the team, consolidating 10 5's into two 10's got us KG and RA. Consolidating a couple 3/4 bench players into a 6 would strengthen us. The competition won't rest on it's laurels, neither should the C's.

The Tony Allen reverse alley-oop and the Big Baby coast to coast jam really capped off what was one of the most incredible performances I've ever witnessed in any sport. It was especially sweet seeing Tony get up like that because of the awful injury he suffered just last season (feels like a few seasons ago, doesn't it?).

My oponion-biggest offseason priority: re-sign Posey. Let Eddie go (as much as I love him!). Draft the best talent. Make sure some of the vets get some good rest (KG, Pierce, Ray, and even Perk) while keeping the young guys hungry and constantly improving (I expect Rondo to just up to around 14 ppg, and--I'm calling it now!--Big Baby will be the starting center next season).

Other than the aforementioned moves and a couple a tweaks here and there, not much else needs to be done. Rondo's, Big Baby's, Powe's, and (hopefully) Gabe Pruitt's improvements will hopefully offset any possible decline of the Big 3. Then, in a few months it's already time for training camp.

Kind of funny that he is "effectively free" as long as the owners aren't worried about money. Doesn't sound free to me!!

If no one else will come here that is better than he is and take a similar amount of money, keeping him is not free. It takes a spot away from a better player that improves our squad. The debate on here is who a better player would be. I personally don't think it would be that hard to find someone.

We now will be a shoe in for free agents who want to try and get a ring that are willing to take a pay cut to do it. If we aren't successful in that search then fine. Resign him for peanuts. If not no big loss.
