I'm sure this is covered somewhere, so merge me if you have to mods, but I thought I'd share this link I stumbled upon:

http://basketball.fanboom.com/nba/boston-celtics/nba-financesboston-celtics.html

Quote
- James Posey – Has a player option for $3.5 million for next season. He could turn it down and become an un-restricted free agent. He had a good season as the Celts’ 6th man, and is in a pretty good position to bargain with other teams and get a long term deal; which means he’s in a good position to re-negotiate right now with the Celtics. $3.5 million is nothing to sneeze at. But, honestly, what he did this year was probably worth a little more. The Celtics should re-negotiate with him right now, and lock him in for another 2 or 3 years for about $5 million per, and hope nobody beats them to him with a better offer

- Tony Allen – He’s a restricted free agent this off-season. The Celtics’ qualifying offer is $2.74 million. The Celtics will probably let him put his name out there and entertain offers from other teams, matching any that he accepts if it’s not for too much. He’s a useful player and they’d like to keep him. However, if some team makes him an offer that equates to starter’s money, they’ll probably decline and let him walk. He’ll get some offers. The only question is how big.

- Eddie House – He’s an un-restricted free agent after this year. He was underpaid this year at $1.5 million. The guy can flat out shoot and plays a valuable role that’s worth at least twice that much. Methinks he’s about to get a raise. The Celtics could very well lose him. Again, as with Posey and Allen, they’ll be careful not to overpay him. But at the same time, he does deserve a raise.

- Scot Pollard, PJ Brown, & Sam Cassell – These 3 old timers are un-restricted free agents. My guess is Brown retires and stays there this time. Nobody signs Pollard, and he retires. The Celtics offer Cassell the veteran’s minimum to come back for another season, and he takes it.

I kinda think what happens in the draft will have a bearing on this. Somebody might fall, letting us get rid of TA. There could also be a minor trade.

i agree PJ and Pollard will retire...or either be back at vet minimums.  And I agree sam will be back at tthe vet minimum if he doesn't start Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ing about his PT during the playoffs.

And for Posey and House - I am hopeful Danny can lock them up for 3-5 years.

Cassell should retire also let Pruitt get playing time and start developing I think he's going to be pretty good.

While we're talking about free-agents, I would like to see if we can get Matt Barnes for cheap.  He was looking for a good contract last year, and didn't get any.  He didn't play as good this year, so he shouldn't be able to get a good contract.  I think he can be very valuable for the Celtics. He can be a Posey-type of player, can rebound, run the floor, hit the three, penetrate a bit, and he has shown he's capable of defending.

OK, in order, here is what I think will happen:

1. Posey will opt out (pretty much a no brainer), but the C's will sign him to a 3 year, $15 million deal (he will have some offers of 4 years, but at less money per).

2. Tony Allen will sign the one year tender.  Teams very rarely sign restricted FA's to offer sheets...especially not ones like Allen.  No team wants to tie up part of their MLE on him at a crucial time in the FA period, when there is a chance the C's will match.  The only way he will be gone is if the C's can use him as a salary in a trade.

Of course this could be effected by the draft as well.  If a wing like Brandon Rush or Chris Douglas-Roberts falls to them, it makes Allen very expendable, and they may try to package him to bring in a backup PG or big.

3. Eddie House will be gone, unless he comes back for the vet minimum.  They are not comfortable with him as the backup PG, and they have a cheaper (and already signed) option waiting in the wings as the 4th/5th guard in Pruitt.  It is tough to give up the veteran presence, but if they are giving Posey a raise, it would be tough to swallow giving a raise also to House (which is what he would probably want), when they really only want him to be a 10 minute per game player.

4. All three of these guys are probably gone.  I think they will look for an upgrade at the backup PG (or more importantly, someone they can count on not breaking down).  They may bring back PJ, but for some reason, I anticipate him retiring (especially if they win the title).

I expect the majority of the MLE to go to signing a replacement to Cassell or PJ (or maybe split between the two).  The top targets will probably be Kurt Thomas, as well as Chris Duhon, Anthony Johnson, and Anthony Carter.

I just don't see them keeping Tony Allen around, certainly not at $2.7M.  I wouldn't be surprised to see them not make the qualifying offer.  They should be able to get a veteran guy in to fill that role (with a lot more consistency) for less that.

(1) Posey should opt out. He'll get a lot of good offers at good money. If Danny pays around the midlevel for 3-4 years he'll likely stay.

(2) Tony Allen comes down to how much interest he gains around the league. If someone makes a solid offer I think he's gone. If they don't he'll probably be back for a year. I don't expect a multi-year Celtic contract.

(3) Eddie House will stay if Doc and Danny promise not to treat him like they did in the first two rounds of the playoffs. If they don't he won't. Eddie wants to play. He won't come back to be 3rd string. He won't cost much. Around the 1.5mil he's on now.

(4) Sam should leave. PJ will retire. Pollard should retire but he'll probably con some other GM into giving him free money first.

Does anybody think Tony Allen WILL generate much interest around the league?  I mean, I don't like sounding like a hater, but it's his inconsistency this far into his career that scares the hell out of me.  I have a really hard time imagining anyone offering him more than a one-year deal, bring him in, give him some PT, and see if the light finally stays on.

Posey is the only 'Must Keep'

I agree, still I think he'll find himself a good contract and I can see him attracting near MLE money. Do we give it to him? How do we fill our roster then? Play the veteran minimum route again?

I'd like the C's to re-sign Posey, Eddie, Tony and PJ (unless they can find another (productive) vet big to replace him.

I think you go with as much MLE money needed to keep him.

My dream scenario is still he doesn't opt out and the Celtics use the MLE on a Diop and or Duhan.

I thought he'd get a decent bit of interest back in Feb-early-March but he finished the season poorly and now isn't even in the rotation. I think that'll hurt him, and now I'm not sure if he'll get much interest.

That said he should get a lot of interest. I said earlier in the year that I think the Toronto Raptors should sign him. He's exactly what they need, a great penetrator who score on the wing. Plays some good one-on-one perimeter defense. Nice. Tony could help a lot of teams.

Teams should try and sign him. Several teams should take a risk on him because the potential payoff is worth it. Should Boston? Not with Ray and Pierce on board. Not with Posey re-signing. There simply aren't enough minutes to go around.
