OK, so we're heading down the stretch for the season. Thought I'd try to resurrect this thread for a couple reasons:
1. It's been called to my attention that there are some not so subtle attempts at tanking: basically benching players so they won't rack up points. I'm not going to weigh in on this until I gauge the temperature of the rest of the league. What do the rest of you think about GMs who have plenty of games left to play, but have essentially benched their teams?
2. I don't recall what we decided about next year's lottery. I thought it was going to be simply the inverse order of finish, but then again, I thought we also wanted an element of chance for the bottom 3 (?) teams to have a shot at the #1 pick. {Again, no playoffs. Whoever finishes in first place is the winner.}
3. I think we also have to think about who deserves to come back for next year. Some GMs have been absolute ghosts/MIA for the season (granted, some didn't have a whole lot to be interested about). I'm not inclined to simply bring everyone back when I know there are other people on the blog who'd be interested in playing, even if it meant taking over a crappy team.
Please weigh in.
The tanking is obvious...although it amazingly began at the time of the draft/throughout the entire season. just look at the back end of the standings, some people have 30-40 games that could be played that arent. but my take on that, and it has nothing to do with my position in the standings is who cares. rookies dont make that big of a difference immediately in fantasy, and those that do are maybe 4-5 guys (i am sure grabbing a guy like beasley will be helpful, but probably isnt worth wasting a full year of playing). if someone wants to tank, i say let them. also, if we were playing head to head i think it would make a difference, but since we are playing for total point i dont think it really impacts people in a negative way (it isnt like team a may play team b at full strength but team c plays team b later in the season when team b is tanking)
This was one of the issues i had initially addressed with the original commissioner. there is a major problem with a keeper league where you keep everyone. those bad teams can afford to 'develop' 20 young guys, whereas if there were only 7 keepers for example you would be more inclined to have not so many young guys. but that was something I raised before the draft, I am not sure how fair it would be to institute new rules now that people have adopted their strategy for the league.
as for lottery, I was under the impression it was just reverse order, although I cannot guarantee that that was correct.
I dont think we can or should boot anyone from the league. If someone wants to leave then thats fine, but I think when you start kicking people there might be a problem. if you wanted to id those people and offer up a warning for the following season that if the same occurs they may be subject to loss of draft picks or potential forfeiture of teams that is fine by me, but to remove someone with no warning (until now) to me is not ok.
just my 2 cents...
