Without fail, at least once every day I think of that long-ago draft day when I foolishly took Gilbert and his knee problems, leaving my team without it's number one player.  Now, I'm stuck with a quirky blogger instead of a high-scoring pg...  Ugh, it's been a wait until next year scenario for me all season.  Happy New Year to all!

I hear ur pain... at least partially. I drafted TMac in the second round knowing the guy is a banana peel away from knee replacement surgery. He's missed too many games so far.

I'm disappointed there's little if any smacktalk.   ???Especially, as 9th place doesn't necessairly allow me to partake in good conscience.  C'mon people, let's stir some life into here!  After all, we are largely a bunch of relatively vociferous bloggers...

I thought I was being nice in not smacktalking...I figured my first place lead would do the talking for me.

I really just feel bad for all of you, since I have about 4 injuries right now (including 2 of my best players in G wallace and Bynum) and I am still kicking butt.  Maybe you guys need half of my starting lineup to sit out?

First I lose Gilbert, then I lose Redd for about 5-7 games.  Man, I specifically tried to stay away from drafting injury-prone players.  I'd be real curious to see what would have happened had my top 2 players not missed so many games.  I certainly don't think I would be in first, but surely a lot better than 9-11th place.    I'll be ready for all of you you next year, just wait...My strength and conditioning team is fantastic. ;)

Also, how are we doing draftpicks, gulp I'm already worrying about the lottery!

Wow, I never saw this. I definitely would have joined. I've never been in a keeper league before, it sounds fun.

If anyone starts a different one next year, season, let me know.

Thanks Yall!  Also, was it possible to trade for future draftpicks?

as for trading picks, i just went in and looked...looks like we settled on the ability to trade a pick one year in advance...so you cant trade your 2012 first rounder.

OK, so we're heading down the stretch for the season. Thought I'd try to resurrect this thread for a couple reasons:

1. It's been called to my attention that there are some not so subtle attempts at tanking: basically benching players so they won't rack up points. I'm not going to weigh in on this until I gauge the temperature of the rest of the league. What do the rest of you think about GMs who have plenty of games left to play, but have essentially benched their teams?

2. I don't recall what we decided about next year's lottery. I thought it was going to be simply the inverse order of finish, but then again, I thought we also wanted an element of chance for the bottom 3 (?) teams to have a shot at the #1 pick. {Again, no playoffs. Whoever finishes in first place is the winner.}

3. I think we also have to think about who deserves to come back for next year. Some GMs have been absolute ghosts/MIA for the season (granted, some didn't have a whole lot to be interested about). I'm not inclined to simply bring everyone back when I know there are other people on the blog who'd be interested in playing, even if it meant taking over a crappy team.

Please weigh in.

The tanking is obvious...although it amazingly began at the time of the draft/throughout the entire season.  just look at the back end of the standings, some people have 30-40 games that could be played that arent.  but my take on that, and it has nothing to do with my position in the standings is who cares.  rookies dont make that big of a difference immediately in fantasy, and those that do are maybe 4-5 guys (i am sure grabbing a guy like beasley will be helpful, but probably isnt worth wasting a full year of playing).  if someone wants to tank, i say let them.  also, if we were playing head to head i think it would make a difference, but since we are playing for total point i dont think it really impacts people in a negative way (it isnt like team a may play team b at full strength but team c plays team b later in the season when team b is tanking)

This was one of the issues i had initially addressed with the original commissioner.  there is a major problem with a keeper league where you keep everyone.  those bad teams can afford to 'develop' 20 young guys, whereas if there were only 7 keepers for example you would be more inclined to have not so many young guys.  but that was something I raised before the draft, I am not sure how fair it would be to institute new rules now that people have adopted their strategy for the league.

as for lottery, I was under the impression it was just reverse order, although I cannot guarantee that that was correct.

I dont think we can or should boot anyone from the league.  If someone wants to leave then thats fine, but I think when you start kicking people there might be a problem.  if you wanted to id those people and offer up a warning for the following season that if the same occurs they may be subject to loss of draft picks or potential forfeiture of teams that is fine by me, but to remove someone with no warning (until now) to me is not ok.

just my 2 cents...

I tend to agree with everything yall hate said (although if you want to open the lottery to the bottom three teams, I won't complain).  My team was a trainwreck from the time I took it over, but I fought the good fight until about a week ago.  At this point, it's tank mode.  (Hell, if the players on my fantasy team can do it in real life, I don't see a lot of harm in our league).

I think any points-based keeper league is going to encourage tanking in the last couple of weeks of the season.  Some may do it subtly, but if you're going to do something, you may as well do it all out.
