Not a great first half for Reed Jr. 4pts/4rebs 1-6 from the field.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Lendeborg for Golden State is looking good. Nice shooting stroke. Looks like he can play both Forward positions.

Barry Jackson: Heat summer league coach Wayne Ellington told us in the postgame briefing just now that Conwell's most NBA ready skill is his shooting: "He's got a natural shooting ability and that's something you can't teach." He said Conwell handled better than he expected. 21 points & several nice passes tonight, as he played both on and off the ball.

Sounds interesting. 6-4 guard they took early in 2nd round. I was shocked to see he played for 4 different colleges in 4 years though. South Florida to Indiana State to Xavier to Louisville.

I wonder if he can be a Jodie Meeks type player for the Miami Heet. Meeks from Kentucky with the 41st pick. Conwell from Louisville with the 36th pick. Meeks went red hot his junior year though lifting his scoring from 15ppg to 27ppg. Conwell was 18.8ppg as a senior.

Darryn Peterson is a scoring machine. 11-21 from the field, 4-7 from 3pt. He had 28pts in 27 mins.

Acuff Jr reminds me of Keyonte George when he first came into the league. Just a tad shorter and not quite as quick. He is going to be a good player.

Watched the Memphis/OKC replay on Prime. Cam Boozer looks like a SF out there. High BBIQ, but very average athletically. He finished with 15pts/4rebs/4ast in 24 mins. I?m sure he will be a solid player, but I don?t see a star.

Mara looked average. He really is not a good rebounder. Was getting pushed around. He finished with 10pts/3rebs/4ast in 22mins.

And he was a -1 for the game, compared to Ace Bailey who scored 10 pts and was a +10?Darryn?s 8 turnovers to 2 assists might?ve had something to do with it  :police:

I think he decided early he was going to shoot it every time he got the ball, probably determined to prove that he deserved to go number one

Dave McMenamin

LAL improves to 1-1 at the California Classic summer league with Sunday's 93-91 sudden-death OT win vs MIA. Another strong showing for rookie Cameron Carr: 26 pts on 7-for-16 shooting (4-for-9 from 3), 8 reb in 33 mins. Thiero 13 pts, 3 stl. Ma?on 12 pts, 3 ast, 2 stl.

I am keeping an eye out for Cameron Carr. Legler was a big fan.

His debut was

Quote
In his unofficial NBA debut, the first-round draft pick flashed the type of three-point shooting that could turn him into a valuable player for the Lakers, scoring 19 points on seven-for-15 shooting with five made three-pointers in their 104-72 summer league loss to the Golden State Warriors on Friday night.

Quote
ESPN analyst Fran Fraschilla estimated that Carr could be the best athlete out of the entire draft class.

Quote
His 7-foot wingspan was the best among guards at the NBA combine, and his 38-inch standing vertical and 10.46-second lane agility test ranked first for his position.

The length and athleticism make Carr the type of rookie who could make an immediate impact on defense, Lakers summer league coach Ty Abbott said.

"He's got an ability to read the game," Abbott said. "He's not out there and completely lost. He kind of understands, and if he does make a mistake, he recognizes it pretty early. ... So for him, it'll just be about probably adding some strength, maybe some weight, and then just getting the reps. ... You just got to go out there and do it. There's no better way to learn how to guard good players than to guard good players."

Sounds encouraging.

-------------

I was interested about Chris Manon when I heard he won the G-League defensive player of the year. I was wondering if he would step up the Lakers main team. I looked at his stats and he is a guard who struggles to make jump-shots. So he will probably stay where he is. Too much of a one-way player.

Peterson vs Boozer on Prime. Darryn is putting on a show.

Update: Peterson finished with 25pts/12ast and only 2TO. I?m not saying he will be as good, but his game does remind me of SGA. Isn?t the fastest or most athletic player, but he still gets to his spots. Can score from everywhere.

Tiago Splitter said he expects Dailyn Swain to be on the ball and run plenty of offense in Vegas. Between him and Swain, the term "big guard" was used a lot today.

Swain sounds like he really wants to hone in on being a secondary ball handler to relieve pressure from PGs in NBA.

Word is Essengue has grown since being drafted a year ago. I am not clear if he is a legit 7 footer or not. I see Bulls claiming he has now grown to 7 feet.

Sam Smith on Bulls.com on Noa Essengue

This article makes it sound like he is 6-11 with big hair that makes him over 7 feet.

Quote
Maybe not so much, except for the hair, which probably adds another five inches. The Bulls listed Essengue at about the same 205 pounds and maybe an inch more than his 6-foot-10 Combine 2025 height.

I thought he was 6-9. Noa was actually 6-10 barefoot at the draft combine. So maybe he grew 1 inch and has big hair (more likely) or maybe he really is 7 feet now (less likely).

Quote
New Bulls coach Tiago Splitter, who said he will coach the first two Summer League games starting Friday against Memphis and Cameron Boozer, said Essengue could be used at three (small forward/wing), four (big forward/wing) or five (center) in this new, alleged - I don't agree, but mostly I am not being consulted - position-less NBA.

"Very long and expectations are higher because (he's a) 6-foot-10, 6-foot-11 player, can put the ball on the floor, shoot a little bit, can do a lot of things," said Splitter. "I want to see him in the games and how he approaches every possession, how he fights every possession.

I'm going to put a lot of pressure on Caleb (Wilson), Dailyn (Swain), on Noa. Those are the guys that really push this team in the Summer League and (it will) be contagious with teammates, the effort, how we are going to play, share the ball; we are going to rebound. We're going to defend. Caleb, Dailyn and Noa, they have to set the tone. I think he (Essengue) can be three, four, five easily."

Quote
But if, coach, you had to select a position, if only for the pregame introductions?

"I'll say he's a four," Splitter admitted. "Honestly, the wings now in the league basically have to be a ball handler that creates and have wings that either are crashing, rebounders or especially three-point shooters, and you have to have a big. The NBA has changed so much. You can't even call one, two, three, four, five."

A player worth keeping on eye on during SL.

Bulls fans also talking about his strong play in his brief spell in the G-League. 4 games. 23ppg 8.3rpg 2.8apg 1.3spg 1.0bpg. 50.8% FG on 15.3 shots per game. Only 23.8% 3PT on 5.3 attempts per game. 84.2% FT on 4.8 FTAs per game. 30.8 minutes a night.

Essengue is still younger than this year's pick Caleb Wilson. Essengue was the youngest player in his class. Even younger than Cooper Flagg.
