Tatum dropped a 'sit-down' about his summer on his YouTube channel. Without any buildup, he straightaway opened the video by recalling the moment he found out about the blockbuster deal that sent Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.

"We were in Vegas, I just got done playing pickup," Tatum recalled. "Sham [Shamgod] walked over. He handed me a towel. He's like, 'Yo, put this over your face. Don't react. They just traded him.' I'm like, 'Oh s?! Where?' He said, 'Philly.' You traded him down the street? I was just as caught off guard as the rest of the world."
The exact clip is circulating on Instagram. On one such post, his former co-star publicly challenged the narrative with a single, pointed social media reaction.

Dropping into the comment section, the new 76ers centerpiece posted a solitary blue cap emoji (🧢 ). In no uncertain terms, he called Tatum's comments "cap," implying that Jayson Tatum's claim of being blindsided was not entirely accurate.

Sounds to me like JT was surprised Boston moved him to Philly. Not that he was surprised that JB was traded.

And people really thought we could salvage that relationship. There was no coming back from last year. Brown has always felt a type of way about Tatum.

So glad this insecure child is off the team.

Gimme a break buddy. Tatum wanted him off this team not the other way around. Remind me again who won ECF & Finals MVP? Oh yeah that?s brown and not Tatum. Who?s really the child? Tatum was jealous of that, deny it if you want. I?d be mad if I was.   Brown too. The guy was booed on draft night, fan base never wanted him, was in trade rumors for years, low balled on 2nd contract, and now smeared on this board with garbage takes about on off and whatnot. It?s a joke. And Jalen Brown is BY FAR in my opinion a tougher basketball player than Jayson Tatum will ever be. And you know it. But whatever. JT got what he wanted. You?re gonna see how soft he really is now? without JB no title. Anybody who thinks JT didn?t sign off on this has their head in the sand. JB is going to put it right in everybody?s face this year. He NEVER wanted to leave.   End rant

😂 JB stans are funny. Literally none of that has anything to do with why he was traded.

But, yes, you?re right. Tatum - literally the most mild-mannered superstar in the league - very likely pushed JB off the team. You can even evidence it by his LONG history of getting involved with team management decisions, like keeping his good friends on the team (Javonte Green, Marcus Smart, etc.) unnecessarily or demanding his long-term friends be signed (Bradley Beal). Nevermind his public statements where he clearly states he stays away from management decisions - he was likely lying.

It certainly has nothing to do with JB?s bloated contract in the second apron era or his (and his fans? - ahem) errant perspective and attitude that he?s a better player when it?s demonstrably false, making it unclear how tenable bringing him back was, as evidenced by his numerous controversial remarks about last season that questioned how much individual vs team success really mattered to him. Certainly nothing to do with it and clearly was just a JT jealousy issue 😂

That's what JB gets for spewing all that crap after blowing a 3-1 lead to the 76ers. Cannot lead when it really mattered.

I'll keep JT. My frustrations were more about the package that Brad accepted. Could've had Giannis and Portis.

Now I hope Paul George can play like he was 10 years younger consistently.

I think that is far from a given. The team felt that we were not good enough to justify those two huge contracts in this second apron era, and I think that was a reasonable estimation. Unless JT literally said he would demand a trade if he left - simply an unrealistic scenario given his character - I don?t think it would?ve mattered given the entirety of the situation.

Also - would we even want JT doing that? When has a star player being overly involved in personnel decisions  ever really worked out (e.g. Giannis, LeBron, etc.)? I prefer JT?s hands off approach and letting Brad work without that kind of pressure.

Garnett requesting "the African" (Rondo) to be omitted from his trade to Boston is the closest I can think of.

With all that said if Tatum wanted JB to still be on this team he would be.

This kind of statement gets thrown around a lot.  It is a hypothetical, so no one can say for sure either way.  Tatum has said in the past, very clearly, that he does not want to get involved with personnel decisions.  He does not want to pick his teammates.  I believe him.

As to the premise, did Tatum want Jrue Holiday off the team (for example)?  Would they have not traded Holiday if Tatum said not to?  How about Porzingis?  Or does this idea of veto power for Tatum only apply to Brown?

I don't buy the logic that they would not have traded Brown if Tatum didn't want him traded.  Or that because he was traded, it proves that Tatum wanted him traded.  It could be true that Tatum was ready to move on from Brown, I have no way to know that, but that is different than assuming Tatum had any influence on him being traded or not.

Remember, the first try was to trade him for Giannis.  Who wouldn't want to trade Brown for Giannis.  After that fell through, I think it would have been tough to keep Brown around no matter how Tatum felt about him.

When the statement also gets thrown around by people with league connections like former players and ex-celtics I believe it. I'm not saying Tatum wanted him gone though. No one has said that. Only that if Tatum pushed JB would have stayed.

Also for those complaining about the cap space. There is Hauser, PP and White that could have been dealt then give young guys a shot. So there are ways to win with two max guys. Also if they wanted Giannis one or more of the three I mentioned would have been moved. Ownership didn't like JB, Tatum didn't love JB as a teammate, and BS didn't want JB. That's just what it is.

It?s nonsense. If JT was choosing the players, why isn?t Bradley Beal on the Celtics? They are like brothers.

And people really thought we could salvage that relationship. There was no coming back from last year. Brown has always felt a type of way about Tatum.

So glad this insecure child is off the team.

JB never felt like he got the respect that he deserved, but I think he wanted to stay a Celtic and was truly hurt by being dealt.

As for whether JT is being truthful, my guess is that he was surprised that Philly was the choice, but I suspect that Brad kept his agent in the loop about the likelihood of a deal.  And, I suspect that JT didn't do much to either encourage or shoot down trade discussions.
I'M THE SILVERBACK GORILLA IN THIS MOTHER... AND DON'T NONE OF YA'LL EVER FORGET IT!
