Tatum dropped a 'sit-down' about his summer on his YouTube channel. Without any buildup, he straightaway opened the video by recalling the moment he found out about the blockbuster deal that sent Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.
"We were in Vegas, I just got done playing pickup," Tatum recalled. "Sham [Shamgod] walked over. He handed me a towel. He's like, 'Yo, put this over your face. Don't react. They just traded him.' I'm like, 'Oh s?! Where?' He said, 'Philly.' You traded him down the street? I was just as caught off guard as the rest of the world."
The exact clip is circulating on Instagram. On one such post, his former co-star publicly challenged the narrative with a single, pointed social media reaction.
Dropping into the comment section, the new 76ers centerpiece posted a solitary blue cap emoji (🧢 ). In no uncertain terms, he called Tatum's comments "cap," implying that Jayson Tatum's claim of being blindsided was not entirely accurate.
And people really thought we could salvage that relationship. There was no coming back from last year. Brown has always felt a type of way about Tatum.
So glad this insecure child is off the team.
Gimme a break buddy. Tatum wanted him off this team not the other way around. Remind me again who won ECF & Finals MVP? Oh yeah that?s brown and not Tatum. Who?s really the child? Tatum was jealous of that, deny it if you want. I?d be mad if I was. Brown too. The guy was booed on draft night, fan base never wanted him, was in trade rumors for years, low balled on 2nd contract, and now smeared on this board with garbage takes about on off and whatnot. It?s a joke. And Jalen Brown is BY FAR in my opinion a tougher basketball player than Jayson Tatum will ever be. And you know it. But whatever. JT got what he wanted. You?re gonna see how soft he really is now? without JB no title. Anybody who thinks JT didn?t sign off on this has their head in the sand. JB is going to put it right in everybody?s face this year. He NEVER wanted to leave. End rant
😂 JB stans are funny. Literally none of that has anything to do with why he was traded.
But, yes, you?re right. Tatum - literally the most mild-mannered superstar in the league - very likely pushed JB off the team. You can even evidence it by his LONG history of getting involved with team management decisions, like keeping his good friends on the team (Javonte Green, Marcus Smart, etc.) unnecessarily or demanding his long-term friends be signed (Bradley Beal). Nevermind his public statements where he clearly states he stays away from management decisions - he was likely lying.
It certainly has nothing to do with JB?s bloated contract in the second apron era or his (and his fans? - ahem) errant perspective and attitude that he?s a better player when it?s demonstrably false, making it unclear how tenable bringing him back was, as evidenced by his numerous controversial remarks about last season that questioned how much individual vs team success really mattered to him. Certainly nothing to do with it and clearly was just a JT jealousy issue 😂
