The Celtics-76ers trade is now official. No changes from the reported terms. No expansion of the trade.

Boston can trade Paul George, but cannot aggregate his salary with other outgoing players' salaries for 60 days.

Does anyone have the exact language of the 2028 1st round pick conditions?

Not handy, but it's:

* Swap with better of Philly and LAC if the Clippers miss the playoffs; swap occurs after SAS swaps with us (or not).  We can only get the Philly pick if it lands number one to number eight; otherwise, it is being shipped off from a pre-existing trade to a team that I don't remember.

* if the Clippers make the playoffs, we get their pick outright (presuming that Philadelphia does not fall number one to number eight)

Thanks Donoghus and Roy. So it is a swap if it is a lotto pick.

Correct.  But the thing to remember is that our pick is likely going to be in the 27-30 range (because we have worse of ours and Spurs).  The other thing to remember is we are also getting Milwaukee?s 2nd in this deal (or some other teams? but MIL is likely to be the best pick of the three).  So really the mostly likely outcome is moving back 5ish spots from the late 1st to early 2nd round, while picking up a lottery pick.  If we do not get the lotto pick, then we just get a non-lotto 1st and early 2nd without moving back.

Yeah, it is complicated but the first will either be two added firsts if the 2028 is outside the lottery (both LAC and PHI), or if this 2028 picks ends up being a lottery pick, BOS needs to send back their pick which will be the worst of BOS or SAS pick (probably high 20s as others have said).

I look at is as what would it take to move up from say pick #27 into the lottery, that is what the 2028 pick swap is worth.  Say the lottery pick that conveys ends up being pick #8 (middle of the lottery).  Pick 27 + (what) would get you that pick?  Pick 27 + 10 would be what it takes by one chart I checked.  So the swap may have more value than a straight pick outside the lottery (say pick #20).

Wow, that is a huge help.  I wonder, would the kicker still apply if BOS trades him?

I wonder what his motivation was.

It sounds like a good PR move to me, if nothing else.  By the end of this contract, he will have made over $500M, kicker or not.  Just read all these threads and he is coming into a fan base that that is howling mad that the team traded for him.  By doing this, it could generate a tremendous amount of goodwill for him.  Now he can say "I know you all loved Jaylen Brown, I understand that, but I am here to help the team win".

So where does that put our cap situation? How far below the tax are we, and with how many players signed?

That really is good news. It give us a little wiggle room and we won't be forced to trade 2nds at the deadline to get under the tax. Saving a little bit of money on the trade makes this a [very] small win. I don't have to resent him as much anymore lol

The average fan doesn't know anything about trade kickers, though.

Adam Aaronson: Sixers jersey number notes: ? VJ Edgecombe?s preferred jersey number is 7, which Kyle Lowry wore last year. Other Sixers wanted it, too. Now it belongs to Jaylen Brown.

Aww .... poor rookie.

That is Jaylen's number = know your place.
