Shams said on First Take this AM that the Celtics are strongly shopping JB to 8-10 teams. He also said that it is his understanding that Brown has not asked for a trade.

Vincent Goodwill who is a senior NBA writer for Yahoo also mentioned on the show that he had
Spoken to several teams and says that there is interest in JB, but Brads asking price is too high. He said that other teams view JB as a top 20 player.

Seems contradictory.  if JB's not asking to be traded and Giannis is no longer on the market, why shop him?  nothing but pennies-on-the-dollar deals remaining.

Fair.

And Desmond Bane, Mikal Bridges, etc.-- guys who are NOT top 20-- have all gotten a haul for the teams trading them.

I can't imagine Brad would accept anything LESS than that for Jaylen.

Seems like the owner does not want to pay JB the supermax. They probably do not think that he is worth it. So they are trying to sell high now. Considering who the owner is, that makes sense.

The other possibility, and I think this is the most likely, is that Brad Stevens feels like we could be a better team if we traded Jaylen Brown.

Those guys were not about to turn 30 when they were traded, though. They also were not on Supermax contracts. All of that matters. Also, markets change. Just because NY and Orlando overpaid for a player a few years ago does not mean someone will now.

Valid points.

But Brad would argue that neither of those guys were 2nd team All-NBA, averaged 28ppg, finished 6th in the most recent MVP race, won a title, was Finals MVP, and a five-time All Star.

I think those qualifications balance things back out a bit more.  It's not like Brad's trying to trade Desmond Bane in today's market.

Feel like the current contract and looming extension is the biggest issue for teams. Especially when he is turning 30 this coming season.

Well, before the season ended I started this thread. thought the Celtics needed to make a change and go after Giannis. They did, but Brad wouldn?t give up Hugo/Baylor and now we are stuck with Paul George. Well done.

We got worse, and the team that beat us in the playoffs last year got better and probably has leaped to being a Top-2 or 3 team in the East. Horrific

This was not selling high and our new owner is a cheapskate.  Though I agree he was not worth the Supermax.   But I believe we could have done better.

I thought Brown would have been worth more as well, but apparently other teams didn?t think so. According to Shams, Brad was engaged in trade talks with 8-10 other teams and this is what he came back with. Shame Stevens dropped the ball with Giannis. He is wasting Tatums prime years. Wouldn?t be surprised if JT asked out after next year. Unless more moves are coming..

FWIW, Celtics had the best odds in the East to win the Finals. Not that I agreed, they should have been behind New York. Right now, they are a distant 2nd somehow, yet way ahead of PHI at 3rd? I don't get that.

BUT my main point, this trade dropped them significantly still, so instead of being marginally 1st they are a distant 2nd in odds out of the East. Thanks Brad  ::)
