Time for a change?

Seems like the owner does not want to pay JB the supermax. They probably do not think that he is worth it. So they are trying to sell high now. Considering who the owner is, that makes sense.

This was not selling high and our new owner is a cheapskate.  Though I agree he was not worth the Supermax.   But I believe we could have done better.

I thought Brown would have been worth more as well, but apparently other teams didn?t think so. According to Shams, Brad was engaged in trade talks with 8-10 other teams and this is what he came back with. Shame Stevens dropped the ball with Giannis. He is wasting Tatums prime years. Wouldn?t be surprised if JT asked out after next year. Unless more moves are coming..

The PG expiring is the next big move, and that is 2 years from now. I expect to have at least one season of PG unless Brad comes up with a spectacular trade. I?m sure Brad has plans to surround JT with a better supporting cast.

JT turns 29 this season.  How many seasons can Brad tread water before he starts wasting Tatum's prime?

And realistically, how many players better than JB are likely to be on the trade market in the next year or two?

The one opportunity the Cs had to be a legit contender this season would have been to get Giannis and hope he stayed healthy. We think we know that it would have taken Baylor and/or Hugo, but to be fair I don?t think we actually know that. But if we go back before the Giannis to Miami trade, these pages contained very mixed thoughts about trading Brown (plus) for GA.  Since GA to Miami and JB to Philly, this blog has posts every day about how Brad blew it.  I wanted Giannis here, but in fairness had we gotten him I?d be pretty concerned that our future would be completely tied to a large 31 yo with history of knee, calf, and ankle injuries.

Giannis could have played this past season but the Bucks banned him from doing so. He was even so eagered to get back to the floor too. Whatever the issue is, he's well-rested for opening night.

So, let's say he can realistically give Miami 60-70 games this season with some load manage here and there. When he suits up in the playoffs, the Heat will be dangerous.

For Brown, Baylor, Hugo, and a couple of picks for Giannis and Portis...that's a trade I'd be willing to make all day everyday, all 7 days a week. Over sending JB to a division rival for 36-year old Paul George and some 1st and 2nd rounders all while in Tatum's prime.

Feel like people get too caught up in how many games guys are playing in the regular season. Wemby, Luka, Cade, Jokic all played 65 games or less this past season. If Giannis was load managed, played only half the season and the Celtics finished a top 4 team, who cares. The playoffs are all that matter. The Celtics would have had a starting lineup of Pritchard, White, Tatum, Giannis, Queta with Connely, Harper Jr, Walsh, Cenac, Robinson, Garza off the bench. Maybe they would have been able to add a Beal or DeRozan to the mix. That team is contending.

I don?t feel caught up in a Giannis injury myth. There doesn?t seem to be any doubt that Giannis has had a tougher time with his body over the past few years. I wanted him here nonetheless. But that doesn?t mean there wouldn?t be health concerns if he were here. That?s why a number of posters didn?t want him here and weren?t upset when we didn?t get him. I think virtually all of those same posters were dismayed at the eventual JB trade. Everyone understands that with a healthy GA this team would be a contender. I?ll bet Brad understand that too.  But he probably thought GA was somewhat of an injury risk and that the trade would have put the future squarely on someone?s back that he thought was a risk. We can rue the day Brad didn?t make the trade every day of this offseason. Or we can just let it play out and see if Giannis has a relatively clean, injury free season. If he does, then Brad made the wrong call. But if Giannis has a hard time staying on the court, then maybe Brad actually knew what he was doing.
