What is even the point of Jaylen for Mitchell for both sides? I don't think they are significantly different, and their future extensions aren't that different. Both sides are better off just keeping it as is.

talent is similar but they do have different skill sets. I don't think Boston would be better though Cleveland probably would be.  Now if it was Mitchell, Tyson, and a future 1st for Brown that is more enticing.  Or Mitchell and Allen for Brown and the 27 1st or something like that.  Or Mobley and Merrill.

I'm ok with taking a step back to strengthen the following years. Milwaukee is going to be picking high.

True, but what makes Portland's picks better than most is that they have pick swap rights with Milwaukee.

If you get a "better of" on some of those picks, you have 2x the odds of getting a better lotto pick (if both teams are in the lottery).

Although I admit, Portland may ascend and not be a lottery team if Jaylen goes there, but the West is tough, and Dame/Jrue may retire soon so it depends which years those picks convey.

It sort of depends how bad a team is.  If you think the Bucks are going to be bad for a year, but generally be a middling team going forward because they have no incentive not to be, having the pick of like the 8th worst team is way better than it used to be.  There is more variance (you can fall further) but it also much easier to rise.  The picks you want are the ones of teams likely in the play-in hunt, but ultimately missing out.

Also, they have swaps with the Bucks.  I would be very willing to bet on the best pick of Portland and Milwaukee for three years straight.  The West is difficult and capping out as a play-in team would not surprise me for Portland.  It would be surprising if you didn?t get a couple of top 10, maybe even top 5 picks.  I do not think Portland is built to last, what with the corner-cutting their new owner is doing.  Give me those Portland picks in 2029 and 2030.

Of course then we'd all be rooting for Milwaukee to not crater into a bottom-three team (and get only two ping-pong balls).

Does rooting for a Portland trade and some of these picks make me a riverboat gambler too?

There are bajillion threads so I will put my latest idea here. 

JB To Charlotte for:

Diabate
Connaughton (salary purposes for Charlotte)
4 FRPs

While Diabate is valuable, Charlotte just traded for Naz Reid, has Kalkbrenner, and just drafted Hannes Steinbach with pick 14 on Tuesday, so Diabate should not be untouchable.  JB will provide the gravity the Hornets need to get their open 3s in a way that Brandon Miller is not yet ready to do.

The Celtics, in addition to getting a solid center who is at least equal to Queta, get a bevy of picks.  But they also get either a $57 million trade exception, or, even better in my mind since they are taking back only $6 million in salary, $32 million in cap space (once they have waived Banton, Shulga, and Williams).  They would have a bunch of choices on how to spend it.  My preference would be poaching Peyton Watson from Denver, which cannot afford to match a large offer (would not give him all $32 million tho), but getting in on Norm Powell is an option, as is offering LeBron $32 million to be a mercenary.  They would also have the $9.4 million room exception to add a reserve (I would be happy to reunite with Simons at this number). 

Any extra cap space they have after their signing could be used to renegotiate and extend either Pritchard or Queta, giving them an early raise now in exchange for a lower salary in the future.

Ideally this would allow the Celtics to turn Jaylen into Watson, Diabate, and many first round picks while resetting their financial situation for the long-term.
