The problem with the individual player maximum is sets expectations.  Jaylen has to get a 35% max to not feel slighted. Jaylen isnt worth 35% of the cap though.  He is more a 25-30% type player.  He is overpaid for what he brings, but the system basically forces Boston to offer him 35% especially as he ages.  If Boston signs him to that extension, they will hamstring themselves, but they basically have to offer that or trade Brown.

If Brown is truly serious about wanting to stay in Boston, he should accept an extension well below the maximum. Might even offer him a no trade depending on what that extension percentage is.

He would never do this. The guy who has been telling everyone all year how much he?s sacrificed is not taking a pay cut.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I mean what player would do that in their prime now really? The union would hate that. It is just an unrealistic expectation and another way to call JB selfish when that is what 95% of the players would do.

that is the whole point of my post though.  The system is set up to overpay players.  Jaylen isn't a top of the cap player, but the system forces that on both the team and the player.   If there was no player cap, just a team one, Jaylen doesn't get 35%, he'd get less.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I'm not sure if it would have made a difference in his extension back in 2023, but the worst thing for us was Brown making All-NBA and forcing us into the 35% supermax. We did go on to win a Title the next year, so of course it was all worth it, but Jaylen at 30% and Tatum and 35% makes a lot more sense and it would have set the hierarchy where it should be without us having to slight Jaylen in anyway

Nick Wright was on with Colin Cowherd. The title of their 8min video was "Nick Wright GUARANTEES Giannis Antetokounmpo Will Be a Celtic".

Colin Cowherd believes Tatum & Jaylen are closely ranked. Nick Wright disagreed. He believes Tatum is a top 10 player (consistently 6th or 7th) and that Jaylen is a top 20 player (who had a top 15 season this year).

Nick Wright believes the 76ers losing so badly to the Knicks (being trashed by NY) is going to make BOS more likely to make a move than they already were. That BOS were worse / further away than they thought if Philly are this far away from competing with NY.

In the video, Nick Wright doesn't actually guarantee Giannis to BOS like the title says but he does say he would bet on it happening. Whether it is a straight swap or maybe a 3 team deal with Jaylen headed to ATL.
