The Timberwolves are showing strong interest in Derrick White, per
@sam_amick

?The Blazers have been among the suitors for Antetokounmpo since the February trade deadline but appear to be on the outside looking in at the moment. Similarly, league sources say the Minnesota Timberwolves ? whose Antetokounmpo pursuit also appears to have cooled ? have strong interest in the Celtics? Derrick White.?

I've been wondering if that's where our Trey Murphy interest has been coming from. White was one of the best players in the league this year analytically (insert Kenny Atkinson joke here) and is a proven winner. I doubt the Pelicans have interest in White, but I'm sure a lot of other teams do.

We may end up with two 3-way deals - Jaylen for Giannis and then White for Murphy. What is really interesting about trading White for Murphy is we could create a brand new huge TPE to be used next year by taking Murphy into our current TPE. Allowing us to stay under the tax this year, but pushing forward our flexibility to go way over the cap next year.

Trade White for Naz Reid + picks

Trade Hauser + a pick for a backup center (someone like Bitadze)

Frontcourt room is Reid/Queta/Backup/Amari Williams

Sign a Coby White or Dosunmu-type with the MLE

Thoughts?

I think the hole here is that we would not have a point of attack defender. Every contender has multiple of them.

Dosunmu could some, but I don't think he can be your lead defensive guard.

I think White can some, but I'd like to get another Jrue Holliday-type player.

Is there a Holiday-type player available in FA? I'm not really sure.

I'm warming to the idea though of White for Reid, then still utilizing the TPE and MLE to acquire a backup big and another guard or wing. Yes, White may be a better player than Reid but this would save some money and rebalance the roster a bit better. Trading White and Hauser in 2 separate trades also takes away 38M in their payroll, and Reid takes up 23M so it could also give them a little bit of additional money to work with this offseason. You still keep Jaylen, Tatum, Queta, PP, Hugo, Harper and Baylor and potentially add Reid, a backup big, and MLE guard/wing. Solid, and a more balanced roster.

I don't get the White for Reid idea.  I guess I see White impacting winning more than others do.  Reid is young, and may have some upside still, but he is what, their 7th guy?  White is the 3rd guy on a better team?  How does that equate?

After this season, White looks more like a 5th or 6th guy on a good team.

And I think Minnesota is better than Boston given that we were ousted in the first-rounds while Minny hung with San Antonio in the West Semis.
