But, I know nothing about long term effects of calf injuries.

I don't claim to know much about them either.   But I worry it could contribute to a future Achilles injury.  That being said I am no doctor.

Could the Celtics steal Portis for cheap?

The most fascinating thing for me in this, is seeing what Milwaukee actually wants.  Do they want a boatload of picks or do they prefer an established player as the centerpiece.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Or Myles Turner?

Portis shows more consistent hustle and would likely be more accepting of coming off the bench behind Q

Would you start Q over Myles Turner?

tough call.  Q's earned that starting spot and meshes with the starting group pretty well.  Turner shouldn't start right away due to lack of familiarity with the team/plays.  if he outshines Q as the season progresses, moving him to the starting line-up may be the way to go.

I think with Portis there'd be none of that drama and a lot less effort needed to motivate him to play hard every night.  one other reason I'd prefer Portis is that if we're sending out Simons for him, there's more of an argument to get another asset from Mil sent to us rather than us adding an asset with Simons to get Turner.

I don't think any of Milwaukee's role players (when you take into account their contracts) are worth pursuing.

I am not sold yet on Q being a long term starter,(he has played well this year, so perhaps he continues to develop) so not that interested in trading for Portis unless the celtics are getting a starting center another way??? Portis is more of a 6th man type first off the bench and I agree he seems like less drama and players harder.

And if Mil is blowing it up I imagine they would be looking to collect assets instead of adding some to make a trade work....Simons for Portis is a hard match as Simons is 27mil vs portis 13.4, it would take an additional 2 players to match that.

I don't love Myles Turner either however he shoots the 3 well, blocks shots and is a proven starter in the league. I think white, tatum and others could pick up his rebounding woes, especially since he is on the perimeter more on offense and could space out opposing bigs. In other words I wouldn't hate the move of trading Simons for Turner
