Pats signed Kevin Byard to a one year deal. He's a good player and an excellent teammate.
Byard is a bit older and safety isnt exactly a premium position, but this seems like a crazy bargain. $9 million for a 1st team all-pro safety???
Didn't the Pats lose Jaylinn Hawkins to the Ravens? Is this just a short term replacement and then maybe draft a safety along the way?
Probably. Hes 32 and its a 1 year deal. I just dont get how the heck he didnt have bigger money offers.
Rumor has it that he priced himself out of the market, initially asking for $13 million per season over multiple years. Teams scooped up younger options, leaving Byard without much of a market. Without a lot of options left, he went back to his old coach on a winning team.
Interestingly, the same thing seems to be happening to two other members of the Bears secondary. Pro Bowler Nashon Wright had to take a 1 year deal with the Jets, and Jaquan Brisker hasn't signed.
