I think it was their only option to double down on their decision and give Mazzulla & the players stability.

In saying that, I have always wanted Rick Carlisle, and he should have been signed after Udoka left.

I do think Mazzulla is an extremely intelligent and talented coach, but he is too inexperienced for a team with title aspirations. Inexperienced coaches make inexperienced mistakes and we have seen that over the past 3 seasons.

I like Carlisle as well, but the Celtics did win a championship with Joe as HC not too long ago.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Yeah I agree Joe coached us to a Title.  But I still don't know how much of that was him, or was most of it just JT/JB finally getting over the hump, and having great team mates as well.   Jrue, D White were huge during that playoff run to the title too.  I think that another coach could have easily won the title with that team.

I think it?s 90% on the players regardless of who the coach is. They won with Joe and the players like him. Thus the extension.

You can make this argument about every single coach who has ever won a title, though. No coach wins a title without great players playing great basketball.

I would have waited until mid season to see if he can coach without great players but it is what it is folks.

They/he also won with a depleted playing field so something else to factor that in
