WHOA! The Mark Williams trade for the Lakers got RESCINDED  :o

WHAT

Shams Charania
@ShamsCharania
Lakers say the Mark Williams/Dalton Knecht trade has been rescinded.

Apparently the Hornets didn't fulfill something. Huh??

Meanwhile Jaxson Hayes is now the starting center for them lol. Jokic will eat him alive

The buyout market is thin. Who tehy gonna sign...Daniel Theis?? PJ Tucker? They're worse or as worse as Jaxson Hayes lolol. At least Luka can now enjoy lobbing to Hayes  ;D

They can always look and see if Jared Sullinger is still up to play basketball in the NBA and give him a call lol!

So the Lakers saw something which led them to believe that Williams won?t be healthy enough to play long term. I wonder what that means? Maybe they realized they overpaid for a fragile  player? Whatever their concern was, it wasn?t related to Williams? back injury. Interesting.

Hornets were scammers.

But I don't mind them scamming to a well-deserved Lakers team. LeOwner probably wants Rob gone now

Apparently it?s not just his back, but he?s had multiple foot fractures too

So what does the Lakers roster look like now

G: A Reaves, G Vincent
F: D Finney Smith, J Vanderbilt, S Milton
F: L Doncic, D Knecht, C Reddish
F: LeBron, R Hachimura
C: J Hayes, M Kleber, C Koloko

So without Mark Williams, we'll probably see more of Maxi Kleber at the center position. A stretch 5. The Mavs used him there at times alongside Luka to open the offense where needed.

They have lots of able bodied forwards. Very few guards. A Reaves, G Vincent ... then Shake Milton. Bronny is next in line.

DFS and Vanderbilt look like they will need to be in the rotation and defend opposing guards due to the lack of able bodied backcourt players / defensively capable players.

A lineup of Reaves / Knecht / Luka / LeBron could be the worst defensive lineup in the league.

I think that is one of the weakest playoff teams in the West. They are lucky they have a good margin in the W-L column right now and are not on the playoff bubble because I could have seen this team missing the playoffs altogether without this cushion.

Sad news for Charlotte to lose that bounty. I was looking forward to seeing D Knecht on the floor next to those guys. That looked a fun group.

G: LaMelo, Seth Curry
G: Josh Green, Nick Smith Jr
F: Brandon Miller, J Okogie
F: Miles Bridges
C: Mark Williams, Josuf Nurkic

Injured: Tre Mann (backup PG), Grant Williams (backup PF), T Salaun (high lotto pick)

It is not that bad of a team. They need some more guard play alongside LaMelo. That should be a priority in the summer.

They have a solid collection of wings in Miles Bridges, Brandon Miller, Josh Green and Josh Okogie. 4 quality rotation pieces. They will get Grant Williams back for next season. 5 quality rotation pieces.

They have 2 useful centers in Mark Williams & Josuf Nurkic. M Williams is an uneven player right now but clearly he has some potential for the future given the big stats he has been putting up. He has a nice offensive game. Passing game, finishing game around the basket. Rebounding. Needs to work on his D.

They should be planning on a run for a playoff spot next season. Add some guards in FA and they will be in business. They are likely to get another high lotto pick as well. Should be solid next year.

Kleiber is injured and they said he won't even be evaluated for 8 more weeks this week. Pretty unlikely he plays any meaningful minutes for them. In years past they could have solved this easily with a buyout guy. But this year the new rules have made that much harder. I hate saying this but even Simmons would have been useful for them but they were not allowed to sign him.

TP. I don't know why Lakers fans are getting excited. Sure, they have a great scorer for the next decade, but this comes at a cost. The Lakers are going to be compensating for Luka's defense for a long time, which is great for us in Celtics Nation.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Listening to Tim Legler's reaction to the trade deadline.

He starts (first 11mins) with the Cavs acquisition of DeAndre Hunter. He is very high on the move. He considers him a "non-star needle mover". He is going to have a big impact there. Believes the main reason CLE went for him was to matchup with Boston (Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum). Legler thought this was a big move.

If it works out, it definitely is a big move. I'm rooting hard for him not to fit in or for chemistry issues.

Legler mentioned a stat. Phoenix has won 67% of the games that Kevin Durant & Devin Booker have played together. That is true this year and for the 2 years overall that they have played together.

A 67% winning percentage is a 55 win team.

Suns only .500 at the moment.

He's not wrong. Out of all the East teams IMO, Cleveland has the recipe to beat us, which is a playoff performer who terrorizes us (Mitchell is that, the new Butler/Lebron in the East in that regard), good size (Okoro, Allen, Mobley, Wade), and a handful of shooters (Strus, Hunter, Jerome). Garland may be the weak link, but it's still a loaded team. Hunter might still be able to "disrupt" Tatum more than Niang could (Tatum still owns Hunter but he absolutely wrecks Niang lol)

Will they beat us? Idk. It would be a fun series though. I would root for a team like PHI/ORL/IND/MIL to knock out CLE before the ECF though. If they did, the East is ours even with some of our own deficiencies and struggles.

The Charlotte Hornets have been in contact with the NBA as they explore options to dispute the Los Angeles Lakers' failed physical assessment of Mark Williams, sources tell ESPN. The Williams/Dalton Knecht trade was nixed Saturday, and now Hornets weigh avenues to challenge.

Oh wow. This is unprecedented right? Can the trade be suddenly allowed post deadline?

It's similar to when a trade is completed, an injury is found, and a team asks for extra compensation.  I know that has happened.

If Charlotte wins this, they'll probably end up with some second rounders and cash, rather than the trade being pushed through.
