I'll start the trade rumor now:  Jrue for Smart this summer

Finally given up on channeling Boogie to Boston?  ;)

Haha.  I'd still fill our two open spots with Boogie and Iguodala.

New: A league source confirmed to MassLive that Celtics made no further moves today after Jaden Springer deal Wednesday. A look at the options for the team now after a busy deadline around the league:

Buyout market it is. Or Lonnie Walker. Or both  :)

I sure hope we go in the buyout market. We can't hang with the top competitors in the East who have also shored up their depth. Sam Hauser is iffy esp when his shots are not falling, so other than Pritchard we have no reliable backups

Says who? Hunter doesn?t automatically remove two small, bad defense guards and change the reality of the Cavs? shooting coming back down to Earth.

And who else you referencing - Kuz and the Bucks? 😅

Save 11 million dollars in salary and somewhere around 75 million dollars in luxury tax for next season. Get off the rest of Jrue's contract. Not a crazy possibility.

What?s going to be really interesting is to see what happens if we win the title again this year.

Without another title, I agree that Jrue is about as good as gone this summer. But with a legitimate chance of a super rare three peat, they could possibly give them one more shot at it before starting to shed salary.

I?d really hate to see us give up a shot at a three peat by shedding Jrue?s salary, though Smart would be a reasonable option if so.

Chris Haynes reporting that Trae Young's future in Atlanta has become "murky". Trae wants to win. These moves Atlanta made at the trade deadline were not win-now moves.

Mark Deeks @MarkDeeksNBA

Gave up a good amount to bring Marcus Smart in; gave up yet more to get rid of him. Gave up two firsts to get LaRavia, declined his fourth year option, then watched him get good at a time when they could no longer get anything for him. Rare, but significant, Ls for the Grizzlies.

LaRavia was picked at #19. Memphis swapped two later firsts for LaRavia and a 2nd round pick (45th pick 2023, became GG Jackson). One of those firsts was Walker Kessler. The other was Ty Ty Washington.

You're right, it may come down to what they do this year. But even if they win the title..... they are looking at a luxury tax payment of 220+ million dollars. That's JUST TAX, add the 225+ million in team salary you are talking about a team that could push the 500 million dollar mark once you fill out the roster.

That's insane, even if you're a title contender the urge to save almost 100+ million dollars by swapping out your 5th best player who is also 35 has got to be pretty strong.

Holiday has 32.4, 34.8 and 37.2(PO) left on his deal after this year for his age 35-37 seasons. If you can get off that contract without giving much up you've got to at least think about it.

Yeah, I didn't think Theis was good enough to get playing time in OKC. Jaylin Williams has been out-performing him as a backup center. Then they got Kenrich Williams and Ajay Mitchell. I am not sure Theis is better than either of them at this point. More of a sideways option. Might as well stick with your young guys and keep developing them.

Not surprising they cut Theis.

I don't think he is worth pursuing for the Celtics. Kornet and Queta will play ahead of him.

How does Marcus respond to being Payton Pritchard?s backup?

Some people theorized that they could deal Holiday for Smart and a Memphis big (they have an abundance of them even behind Edey/JJJ) and save approximately 6-8M and nearly 50M in luxury tax that way.

But now Smart's in Washington

Hearing that #Pistons are sending KJ Martin to the #Jazz ... plenty of moving pieces, including how Dennis Schroder fits. This also seems to be part of the bigger Jimmy Butler deal.

In the four-team deal with the Bucks, Knicks, Wizards and Spurs, Milwaukee is sending $1M to Washington, $2M to the Knicks and $4.13M to San Antonio. #FredOfTheLoom

So Milwaukee is spending $7.13 million to these 3 teams? I did not know you could do that.

I like the Cavs tripling down on shooting over keeping the extra creator. In the playoffs, Mitchell, Garland and Mobley are gonna create everything anyway, and when they don't, Ty Jerome has been better off the bench for Cleveland anyway.

Me too. I did not like the fit of Caris LeVert on that team. Mediocre efficiency creator and bad off-ball. Not what they needed. DeAndre Hunter is a much better fit. An off-ball threat. A strong efficiency scorer.
