Bad looking team

Will Lonnie Walker get minutes?  If so, will he take Hauser minutes or will his minutes be to provide rest for starters down the stretch?  Is he someone likely to make a playoff rotation?  Is he better or worse than Oshe or Javonte?  Lonnie strengths and weaknesses? His time here was brief and without an actual regular season game.

And is he realistically the target or is that blind speculation?

I share your questions around this.  People have been just dying to get Lonnie Walker back.  Outraged that we let him get away for what some view is financial considerations.  I don't see it.  I am not sure he plays as much as Springer did lately.  Springer played for some specific defensive match ups for very limited periods of time.    I see him as a fine option off the bench, more likely to play than Scheierman and probably Walsh.  We are going to need a couple more bodies, Walker is fine, but I don't see him making any real difference.

There is some irony in the fact that the NBA is dominating Super Bowl week after the NFL tried to bully its way on Christmas Day with the NBA.

Interesting observation.  Yeah, I personally have no interest in the week leading up to the Super Bowl.  I am excited about the game, will definitely watch (traveling for business so probably from a bar or my hotel room) but all this other noise does nothing for me.

I wonder if the local radio stations, for example, still feel it is worth the investment to have people in person, broadcasting live, for a whole week, talking about the Celtics.

The Wizards are also holding onto veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon, who is on an expiring contract. They believe he, newly acquired Khris Middleton and Smart will be good mentors for their young guards and wings.

Still trying to figure out why keeping Marcus Smart even as a break glass in case of emergency veteran for the playoffs, with the option to trade his expiring contract in the offseason, was deemed worse than today?s salary dump by the Memphis Grizzlies front office.

Interesting question.

Oooh. If Phoenix fail in the first round again, that will be 3 playoff runs with Kevin Durant & Devin Booker. The first one had CP3. Last year and this year will have Bradley Beal.

They could go 3 years together and manage to win only 1 playoff series in 3 years. That 1 series was against the LA Clippers when P George was out injured and Kawhi Leonard only managed to play 2 games. That would be Durant's playoff record in Phoenix.

That is likely to happen. Crazy.

Kendrick Perkins -- "We have yet to talk about the real issue here. Another organization, another failure, for Kevin Durant". Brutal. Truthful. But brutal.

Law Murray @LawMurrayTheNU

The statement from Hawks GM Landry Fields does not mention Bones Hyland Says TMann is a competitive and legitimate two-way player that team liked as player/person for a long time And that team is grateful for passion and heart Bogdanovic played with

Bad sign for Bones Hyland. I was hoping he'd get an opportunity in Atlanta. Their backup PGs behind Trae Young haven't been great. I enjoy Bones Hyland. He is a creative offensive player. Main problem is his defense which is bad. That keeps him off the floor. Too lightweight. Pushed around too easily. Concedes too much to the opponent.

Agree with L Fields about T Mann. I think he is a great fit next to Trae Young. The type of role players you want with Trae. You gotta surround him with athletic defensive orientated guys. Not all offense no defense guys like Bogdanovic or Gallinari (back in the day).

Trae is a one man offense. An offensive engine. Between his scoring and passing, he can create 60% of your offense for you. It is the defense you have to focus on when picking teammates to surround him with.

The Lakers make the Mark Williams trade official. JJ Redick says: "I'm just a big fan of his, We're confident that we can take care of him and manage his body and he?ll be on the court for us"
Quote
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter

JJ Redick said he met Mark Williams when he was coming out of Duke, and has gotten really good feedback about him regarding his intelligence and background.

A lot being made of the Duke connection between JJ Redick and Mark Williams. They have known each other for several years. Get on well.

Jovan Buha @jovanbuha

In a small press conference with reporters pregame, Lakers VP of basketball ops and GM Rob Pelinka said that Charlotte reached out to LA regarding their need for a center. The Mark Williams trade was negotiated and agreed upon between the two sides in less than two days.

So Charlotte reached out and initiated the deal?
Just like Dallas reached out and initiated the Luka trade?

Must be nice to be Pelinka & the Lakers.

The Spurs' trade for Patrick Baldwin Jr. has been completed. San Antonio acquired Baldwin Jr. The Bucks acquired draft consideration from San Antonio. Waiting to see if Baldwin Jr. was waived immediately or not

Small trade. I did not notice this one yesterday.

Light on big men. No real PF. 4 SFs. Some decent players in the backcourt.

That is a weird looking roster.  Malcom and Marcus reunited!

I believe that is a pu pu platter of mediocrity.

Ya its not supposed to be actually be good. If they finish with the worst record they are guaranteed a top 5 pick in a draft with 5 potential future all stars. Meanwhile they picked up a few draft picks and have a few guys in Smart/Middleton who might rebuild some value for them and be flippable this summer.

I really hope Flagg doesn't end up in Washington.  Crap organization for him to go to.

I hope he does go to Washington. We?ll get so see him play more if he?s on the east coast and Cooper will almost certainly want out of there by the time his rookie deal is up.

I've always pictured him in Charlotte, but now I'm rooting hard for Utah.

Washington is a great organization for him if he wants to become a Celtic in the future.  It?s much better to land on a directionless organization that always cheaps out if you hope to some day be traded or sign with somewhere else.  Wizards and Hornets are my top two choices for him.

I don't think he's the target.  He can only be bought out of his European contract for the next 12 days or so, and Brad said we're waiting on the last spot.

Also, I don't know the financials, but it may make more sense for Walker to stay overseas.
