I was gonna teasingly say, Lakers got the following players who can stop other teams:

OKC-stopper - Luka
Minny-stopper - Luka
Clipper-stopper - Luka
Nuggets-stopper - Luka
Mavs-stopper - Luka
Warriors-stopper - Lebron
Celtics-stopper - LeBron

Tbh when has been the last time the Celtics eliminated LeBron from the playoffs...and he's typically had the best of Boston when they've met. Yeah we swept him two years ago, both games going into OT though. This year the C's were blown out at their turf

But 40 year old LeBron still putting up productive numbers. Wouldn't count him out yet.

Minny signed Bones Hyland.

Good addition. He is an ideal offensive 3rd string PG. A guy who can step in and create offense for you. Something Minny need from their guards from time to time.

I wonder if Edwards' swagger will unleash Hyland.

Nice dunk but it looks so filthy because of his long arms.  I've seen lots of better dunks this year.

Some LaMelo Ball stats

Quote
2nd in Usage Rate
339th in True Shooting Percentage

336th in Net Rating
456th in Defensive Rating

1st in 3pt FGA/gm (11.7/gm)
143rd in 3pt FG% (33.6%)

3rd worst AST/TO of all starting PG's (just ahead of Ja Morant and Coby White)

Played 64% of games (on track for a 50 game season)
Hornets are 14-42, good for 14th in the Eastern Conference

That usage rate (#2) versus TS% (#339) is horrid.

As is the three point attempts (#1 at 11.3 3PTA) versus percentage (33%).

Still, LaMelo has had a major impact on winning for the Hornets this season. In his 36 games, the team is 13 wins 23 losses (29-30 win pace). In comparison, in the 21 games LaMelo has missed, the team has 1 win and 20 losses (4 win pace over full season). His creativity, playmaking, and inefficient scoring do improve that team.

If I were a Hornets fan, I would be more concerned about Brandon Miller. He only managed 27 games this season but his performances in that period were poor.

He is scoring 21ppg which at first looks good until you see his inefficiency. He is taking 18 FGAs (huge number) with a FG% of only 41%. He is taking 10.9 3PTA just behind LaMelo's 11.6 3PTA despite B Miller hitting only 35.5% 3PT%. He never gets to the foul line in large part due to his huge volume of three point attempts. Only 2.9 FTA versus 18.0 FGA which is a terrible figure. A terrible figure for any player nevermind an athletic 6-9 wing. Overall, his TS% is a match for LaMelo at 54% which we learn from the post above ranks B Miller 339th in the league.

Then you look at his

* Rebounding - only 4.9rpg in 34.2mpg. This is just below LaMelo at 5.1rpg in 2 less minutes per game. This 4.9rpg is below par for a SF and particularly poor for a player who is as tall, long and athletic as B Miller is.

* Defense - well below average defender. Too skinny. Lightweight. Gets pushed around like a ragdoll.

* Passing - 3.6apg which is okay but in comparison to (a) turnovers at 2.8 per game shows limited quality. Barely over a 1:1 AST:TOV ratio which is the standard for a center not a skilled SF. (b) shot attempts with 18 FGA vs 3.6 shows a selfish gunner.

I would be open to trading B Miller while he still has good trade value if I were the Hornets. If he doesn't show major improvement in the next 1-2 years, his value will plummet.

And I am not a believer that he will show such improvement. I am disappointed in his lack of improvement physically (muscle, weight gain), shot selection, defense, rebounding, passing, scoring efficiency. He is not a top 20 SF despite putting up 21ppg. He only cares about how many points he gets. Not wins. Not team play. Not doing the gritty hard yards.

They could probably get a better player than him if they traded him this offseason. Someone will buy on his potential as a 6-9 athletic SF who can shoot 3s and score 20+ppg. Get a better running mate for LaMelo while adding a likely top 5 pick to their roster through the draft. Give them 3 solid players to build around.

He?s still really young, too. Only 23 years old.

Lebron was 33 and Tatum was a rookie the last time Lebron faced the Celtics in the playoffs.

I think common sense would say that a thing or two have changed in the past 7 years.

With that depleted Lakers roster it's tough to gauge. Then again, I've seen the unbelievable unfold like last szn with Luka. Pierce might be onto something here.

Hope I'm wrong, but if LAL somehow manages to not play any of DEN/OKC in the first two rounds, then they might have a chance to reach the Finals. I'm not sure who realistically can beat them in a 7 game series besides those two. I don't trust HOU, LAC and MEM. I mean maybe Memphis but Morant would have to actually ball out and not be inconsistent. If they are just relying on JJJ + Bane it's not enough. Golden State is legit again, but idk if they'll quite get there and make a deep run, plus Lebron has owned them in recent months (although now with Butler that's another guy LAL will have to defend as well). AD gave GSW fits too though and he's not gone so that kind of takes away an issue Golden State had when facing LAL, too much frontcourt fire.

I still pick OKC to come out of the West, and the WCF to be Denver vs. OKC
