Very curious to see what happens with the franchise 24 hours from now when the game ends.

I mean I know "Black Monday" is on Monday as the name suggests but could there be decisions and/or firings made after tomorrow's game? Will the Pats officially have the #1 or #2-4 pick?

If Mayo remains here after Monday I think he's staying, idk why they'd delay it further.

WOW I'm stunned they already announced it.

Although I'm a bit underwhelmed to hear Elliot Wolf and by all accounts it seems a lot of the other front office people like Matt Groh, etc. are still here. Yes, Mayo needed to go for someone like Vrabel or Ben Johnson (a clear upgrade), but the lack of talent on the roster is also glaring and it starts with Wolf, the scouts and all the other guys upstairs too.

100M+ in cap space, the #4 pick (so mad it's not #1...) and a QB of the future in Maye. If Wolf messes it up then YIKES, that's gonna hurt us for many years to come too if he does.

Imagine if Vrabel or Johnson decline the Pats job because they don't trust the front office, and Wolf in particular. And this team can have 200M in cap space, and it won't make a difference if free agents don't want to come here. It certainly didn't help last off season. BTW, this free afent class is nothing to he desired.

So here is my bold prediction.  Pats win vs. BUF but TEN wins vs HOU so Pats end up with the 3rd pick and take Travis Hunter after CLE and NYG take QBs.

I hope I am wrong, would rather have the first pick to trade, but would this outcome be all that bad?  My prediction is more of a wild guess but TEN is actually favored by 2 at home so this is at least realistic.  3rd pick feels way better than 4th pick.

Hunter may well end up being the best player in the draft and a top player for years.  It feels a little greedy to hope for Hunter and a trade for more picks.

I guess the best best outcome would be Pats win, and all the other 3 win teams also win but NYG beating PHI, even with them resting everyone and CLE beating BAL (who I think needs to win for the Division) are both really unlikely.

I think the best outcome would be for the Pats to lose, have the 1st pick, and keep everything simple.

I know, but things are never that simple. As I thought, the Pats win.  Buffalo was definitely trying to lose the game. They were not about to help a division rival. If the Patriots wanted to lose, they had to try to lose and Mayo was not about to do that.  Even playing Milton wasn?t enough.

My gut feeling tells me Vrabel wants this job and the Krafts want him too, as a mutual thing. Otherwise for as bad as Mayo was, idk why they'd fire him if they may have to end up getting another "bad hire" or a "panic hire" of some sorts. That would make the situation look 10x worse

I have to believe that Kraft made the decision very quickly knowing he has someone (probably Vrabel) already agreeing to take the job.

Agreed. I would still want them to actually do a thorough search this time around but if Ben Johnson goes elsewhere (and I expect he will), Vrabel is the easy choice.

So will Kraft actually spend some money in FA this year, once they have a new coach? He did Mayo dirty and Wolfs drafting was horrendous. Not sure why Eliot gets to keep his job.

P.S.: please don?t cancel your season tickets. -RKK  ::)

After the game today, I informed Jerod Mayo that he will not be returning as the head coach of the New England Patriots in 2025. For me, personally, this was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. I have known Jerod for 17 years. He earned my respect and admiration as a rookie in 2008 and throughout his career for his play on the field, his leadership in the locker room and the way he conducted himself in our community. When he joined our coaching staff, his
leadership was even more evident, as I saw how the players responded to him. When other teams started requesting to interview him, I feared I would lose him and committed to making him our next head coach. Winning our season-opener on the road at Cincinnati only strengthened my convictions. Unfortunately, the trajectory of our team's performances throughout the season did not ascend as I
had hoped.

Since buying the team, I have always considered myself and my family as custodians of a public asset. We have tremendous fans who expect and deserve a better product than we have delivered in recent years. I apologize for that. I have given much thought and consideration as to what actions I can take to expedite our return to championship contention and determined this move was
the best option at this time. I am grateful for Jerod's many contributions to the New England Patriots throughout his career and will always be rooting for his success. I appreciate all his hard work and hope the experiences gained will help him in the future, as I still believe he will be a successful head coach in this league. I wish Jerod and his
family nothing but success in the future.

Should've done that a few years ago, silly old man. Should have spent money, hired wise folks in the front office, help draft the correct players

I hope the firing doesn't end here.

Alex Van Pelt and DeMarcus Covington both need to go too

Patriots' 2025 opponents are here:

Home: Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Atlanta, Carolina, Las Vegas, NY Giants, AFC East
Away: Baltimore, Cincinnati, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Tennessee, AFC East

If they have a Vrabel + Maye duo with a bolstered OL and weapons, this team can actually make the playoffs. Though all in all, "wins" should be against the Browns, Panthers, Raiders, Giants, sweeping the Jets, Saints, Titans.

NFL completely changes year to year, hard to project wins or ?easy schedules? a year out
Never mind the assumption that we are all of a sudden going to better or Drake maye will actually know how to win a game

Easier said than done with trying to acquire premium positions at OT and WR. And the guy picking those players, in either the draft or free agency, wasn't fired today.

The season ended for the Pats about 15 hours ago.  The HC has been fired.  Maybe give it a few days before drawing conclusions.  I think Mayo will not be the only one fired but, rightly so, he was the first.  If I had to guess, the Krafts probably want to think through a replacement for HC before addressing the other roles, especially since the new HC will undoubtedly have input into the other positions.  Firing the GM, OC, and DC with no plan is probably not smart.   Hopefully we?ll hear something today about Mayo?s replacement (or at least a process).
I still can?t get over blowing the top pick. What utter stupidity.  It was easily losable.  Notice how the Bills declined a holding call which could have made a 42 yard FG attempt into a 52 yard attempt.  Notice how they brought in Mike White.   That?s how you purposefully lose a game.   Would be great today to be sitting on the number 1 pick AND thinking about the possibility of Vrabel as the new HC.  Really disturbing.

  • Yup
There?s a very messed up wheel of circular dysfunction at this point.  Loyalty is all well and good, but Mayo was clearly a bad choice and needed to be replaced.  There are other ?cogs? that either need some grease or need to be replaced as well.  The biggest problem is the engine running the whole thing is wearing down and doesn?t have self awareness to know it.
