Bronny James is only 19 (turns 20 in Oct).  I think he looked fine in summer league, he showed he has the core athletic ability to run with the summer league talent.  He didn't stand out in any way, was really just kind of average, which still is not bad for a 19 year old.  But he has a long way to go before he will be ready for the NBA, as is the case with most summer leaguers.  He is probably not any better than most 2-way players, but he got a contract.  He has a lot of potential ceiling in my mind, but it is just that, only potential.  He is probably better than Davison was at 19 for example.

He probably belongs on a 2-way deal, playing mostly in the G-League.  I don't see a future starter and maybe not even a future bench rotation player.  I see a player who might make it and be in the league for a bit, on the end of the bench.  But a lot can change when you are only 19.

Lebron and the lakers certainly put him in a bad spot with the guaranteed money. If he was on standard two way I think he would be at least a little less under the microscope
Guaranteed money is definitely NOT a bad spot.  In the end Bronny is either going to develop into an NBA player or he won't.  But that guaranteed contract likely gives him more time to develop with the Lakers than a 2-way contract.

For a normal player sure, but Bronny doesn?t need the money. The guaranteed amount and playing for his dad?s team put him under an unnecessary microscope. He also would have been making higher than his salary from nil money with another year in college. Him being forced to the pros and given money when he doesn?t belong there is not helping Bronny career.

Watching Houston vs Washington on ESPN2. #2 pick Sarr looks good and the #3 pick Reed is fun to watch. Should be an entertaining game.

Jay Huff ?The MAGIC Dragon? with a nice game for Orlando tonight.

13 points, 6 boards, 5 blocks.

Hit a three, and had three pump-fake, one dribble, dunk-a-thons.

I still think he?s a Kornet 2.0 type of player with a three-point-shot and a nice drive-and-finish game.

Reed Shepard is struggling a bit against the Pistons in the first half. Entertaining game, though.

Bubba Carrington looking good in this third quarter. Worth keeping an eye on as a good young player.

Sarr, on the other hand, is 0-11

Sarr was awful shooting tonight, but he did finish with 9rebs, 3blks, 3ast, and 1stl. For a 7 footer, he runs the floor really well and can handle the ball too. Has a ton of upside.

I agree, but the concern about him pre-draft was that he floated to the perimeter too much and didn't use his size inside well. Those issues were on full display tonight.

I see a Christian Wood type of player on the low end of outcomes. High end would be something like Evan Mobley, or a young Chris Bosh.

After seeing the rookies play, should Reed have been the #1 overall pick?

If the Hawks could have moved Trae, maybe, but not with Trae still on the team.

Sure, but Sarr set a summer league record* for futility, with the most misses without a make.  That is terrible for a #2 overall pick to do, regardless of the rest of his stat line.  And as his best shooting line in three games 4-12 with a TS% under 50%, he is looking terribly out of place.

*Probably a record, as summer league data was not tracked as well until the last decade.  But it would have been tied for the second worst in NBA history, and as summer league games are shorter and players typically get fewer minutes, it is a pretty safe bet that it is an unqualified worst.

It?s one summer league game. I?d imagine the GM of the Wizards isn?t losing sleep over it.

Man, Sheppard looks good. My first thought was he looks like TJ McConnell. Not super fast but uses his body well to shield the ball and plays at his own pace. Better shooting range than McConnell. McConnell's lack of a 3 point shot holds him back. If McConnell had a 3, he'd be a quality starting PG. Bodes well for Sheppard.

Second thought was how much Sheppard reminded me of Nash. Not so much for his passing but how he uses the dribble patiently, changes speeds, again plays at his own pace. It was Sheppard's scoring that reminded me of Nash's scoring more than their relative passing skills. That ability by Nash to pull up from anywhere and hit any type of jump-shot off the dribble from anywhere on the floor.

Sheppard could have some major league talent. Looks much more comfortable at the PG position than I expected. I thought of him more of a combo guard / SG with some playmaking. He looks a legit PG. Bodes well for him (comfort at PG) given his size.
