Jonas Valanciunas = $30 million. Naji Marshall = $27 million. Obi Toppin = $60 million. I need some convincing on this one.

Dallas pivoted to signing Naji Marshall, league sources say, after unexpectedly conceding tonight that it likely would not have the wherewithal to retain Derrick Jones Jr. while the Mavs focus on the sign-and-trade pursuit of Klay Thompson. ESPN first reported Marshall deal.

So Derrick Jones Jr won't be returning to Dallas.

Apparently, Orlando are going after Isaiah Hartenstein as well. He could be a very nice piece for either ORL or OKC if they can pry him away from NYC.

G: Suggs, Cole Anthony
G: KCP
F: F Wagner, J Isaac
F: Banchero
C: Hartenstein, Wendell Carter Jr

A base 8 man rotation in place there. Looks like a pretty solid 50 win team to me. Still short a bit of offense to be a legit title contender though. More regular season warriors playoff pretenders. Just not enough offense.

He's headed to the Clippers for marginally more than Dallas gave Marshall.

Shams saying Derrick Jones Jr to LA Clippers for $30mil / 3yrs. Why was Dallas not able to match that?

Clippers

G: Harden
G: T Mann
F: Derrick Jones Jr
F: Kawhi
C: Zubac

That is three seriously low usage role players.

So T Mann is now the 3rd option? He took 6.6 FGAs in 25mpg last year. 2.7 3PTA. So a three every 8-9 minutes. Derrick Jones took 6.5 FGAs in 23.5mpg. Only 7.3 FGA in 29.4mpg in the playoffs. In both about 3 three point attempts. So one every 8 minutes in the regular season and one every 10 minutes in the playoffs. Two reluctant shooters. Then Zubac who only ever shoots if he is open right underneath the rim.

Those three guys are some of the lowest usage starters in the league. All on the same team.

I wonder if the bring Norman Powell into the starting lineup to deliver some offense. Give them a 3rd scorer. Maybe move Mann back to the bench.

Although if I am T Mann, I would be loving this opportunity. He has got a chance to put up 10-12 FGAs a night. Be a 12-15ppg scorer. This would be the biggest offensive role of his career. The biggest opportuntiy of his career.

Dallas could have matched that.  They didn?t have much room to match it instead of what they gave Naji Marshall, but they could have.

Literally able to only offer the vet minimum.  We did well to get Kornet on day 1, frankly.

Oubre 2yrs $16mil to stay in Philly.

I am surprised Oubre was a priority for Philly. They said they are not planning on bringing back Batum. I thought Batum outplayed Oubre and was a better fit next to Embiid. Oubre is a low quality outside shooter. He is a low quality ball-handler and passer. A good transition player and slasher. Not necessarily the type of off-ball qualities you are looking for in a role player next to Embiid, Maxey and maybe PG13. Oubre's defense was very good for Philly. I understand that part of it.

Philly will sign Oubre with the room exception after they have spent their cap space.

The way things are shaping up, I think the top 3 teams in the NBA next season will all be in the East.

Boston, New York and Philly.

I don't see anyone in the West that is as good as them.

Lowry (assuming he re-signs) / McCain
Maxey / Gordon
George / Oubre Jr.
Reed / FA (Batum or Covington?)
Embiid / Drummond / Bona

Philly looking good, but still not worried about them in the slightest. Knicks are the bigger threat.

Paul George is a no show in the playoffs
Embiid will get hurt at some point this season

Not really concerned about them seeing they have a loser mentality and can?t get out of the second round.

So LAC get nothing for Paul George?  If healthy, PHI will be improved. But their big 3 will include Embiid and George. What is the chance they both play a full season?

PHI will be a team that needs to be taken seriously though.
