Good graphic on where Orlando's roster & cap space now stands

Quote
Evan Sidery: The Bulls offered Zach LaVine to the Warriors for Andrew Wiggins and Chris Paul, per @ChrisBHaynes . Golden State declined, which again says a lot about LaVine?s overall value league-wide right now

Man, I would have liked to have seen LaVine in GSW. His shooting and speed would have been a great fit in their offense. Some defensive issues with him and Steph for sure but boy would that offense have been fun to watch.

The Suns could have gone back in for CP3. Either as a starter or a bench player. They have no PG. They would benefit from having a legit PG.

G: CP3
G: Beal, G Allen
F: D Booker, R O'Neale
F: Durant, Bol Bol
C: Nurkic, Eubanks

CP3 had a great run there in PHX. You already know he has great chemistry with Booker. He'd play well with Durant. He'd provide a steady hand guiding the offense. Something their other guards (all two guards) do not offer.

If Klay goes to another team (ORL/OKC/PHI/DAL/LAC) then I think LAL will just give Lebron the max and call it a day. Unless they make some trade but otherwise a handful of their targets also were scooped up.

OKC would be an interesting fit for Klay

G: SGA, Cason
G: Klay, Caruso
F: Dort
F: Jalen Williams
C: Chet

Klay gives them that outside shot maker they lacked in the playoffs. They have enough quality defenders around him to hide on defense.

He would, but OKC's primary target should be Hartenstein and it seems it's trending that way.

Idk what their cap situation is.

LAC making an interesting gamble with Paul George.

I don't think they will miss him that much when they are healthy. Harden can step up and do more offensively. They have some offensive minded role players. They can replace a lot of PG13's offense. They'll miss his defense & rebounding more.

But Kawhi is a major injury risk. If they only get half a season out of him, LAC could miss the playoffs altogether. A bit like Philly last year playing at 60+ win pace when Embiid was healthy but bottoming out without him because they no longer had Harden to pick up the slack when Embiid was out. Now LAC will no longer have PG13 to pick up the slack when Kawhi is out.

The three old injury prone guys in Kawhi, PG13 and Harden offered cover for each other. So long as you had 2 of 3 them healthy you were a 50+ win caliber team. Now you are only that when you are fully healthy and the moment one of those guys goes down you are going to be a sub .500 squad.

Orlando should consider trading J Isaac to a team with cap room to free up more cash if PG13 was willing to join them. Turn F Wagner into a 6th man.

G: Suggs, Cole Anthony
G: KCP
F: PG13, F Wagner
F: Banchero
C: WCJ

New Orleans got a big hole at center now with Valanciunas leaving. The FA market doesn't look very hot for them. The trading market for CJ McCollum doesn't look very hot for them either.

I would target two guys in FA and they are Goga Bitadze and Xavier Tillman. Goga should be available for the minimum. Tillman will cost money. I'd start Goga for rim protection and use Tillman as the sub. The more versatile switchable defender.

I wonder if NOP and ORL would agree a trade of CJ McCollum for Jonathon Isaac. ORL would get that 3rd scorer they need behind Banchero and F Wagner. They would have a strong three man guard rotation with Suggs, KCP and McCollum. NOP would have a versatile forward-center in J Isaac who could give them a big defensive forward but a guy who can also play as a small ball perimeter orientated offensive center. So NOP could roll with J Isaac at the five alongside Zion, Ingram, D Murray and one of T Murphy / H Jones.

G: D Murray, Alvarado
G: H Jones, J Hawkins
F: Ingram, T Murphy
F: Zion, J Isaac
C: Goga Bitadze, X Tillman

Wagner is an up and coming player. Would be huge mistake to push him aside for Paul George. Wagner and Banchero are the future in Orlando.

Another option is to trade Ingram instead of McCollum. H Jones and Trey Murphy are more SFs than SGs anyway so they can fill the vacancy left behind by Ingram. One rumoured deal is Ingram for Jarrett Allen in Cleveland.

G: D Murray, Alvarado
G: McCollum, J Hawkins
F: H Jones, T Murphy
F: Zion Williamson
C: Jarrett Allen

NOP GM wants a rim runner / rim protector next to Zion. Not a floor space. J Allen is one of the best in the business at this. Ingram is a heavy cost but the fit there with Ingram hasn't been great. Might be worth the talent downgrade for superior team cohesiveness.

I worry a bit about their offense. It doesn't look that great. Zion is an efficiency machine but neither D Murray or McCollum are. They are both a bit light as 2nd option material. Both fine as 3rd options. Especially D Murray. Strong role players in J Allen, H Jones & T Murphy though. They will add a lot of value. Chance to build a high level defensive team around them and D Murray. Alvarado off the bench is a gamer defensively too. More of a high level defensive group with adequate offense.

Some offensive upside in Trey Murphy and Jordan Hawkins. Both of those guys have room for major growth offensively. That would ease the situation.

Yeah, that is the part that has always been uncomfortable to me about the fit of PG13 in Orlando. They already have two high quality forwards there. Both top 10 players at their respective positions. There isn't a real need or fit for PG13.

I do think it is workable albeit not optimal. Franz Wagner could still play 30mpg off the bench backing up the two forward slots and playing some time at SG alongside PG13 and Banchero at forward when KCP sits. Try and sell Franz on being Orlando's version of San Antonio's Manu Ginobili. Make sure he understands he is the 3rd star here even if he comes off the bench.

KCP is the best overall SG so I don't think benching him in favour of Franz will work that well either. PG13 is too old and slowing down to be chasing around guards. Franz can but there will be some diminished returns there. And sharing the ball with PG13 and Banchero will have further offensive diminished returns. Franz would be better off as a 6th man where he could be the 2nd option most of the time he is on the floor rather than 3rd choice as starter behind PG13 / Banchero.

Phoenix signed Mason Plumlee to a one year deal. I see Eubanks opted out so Plumlee is their new backup center.

Dallas gave 3yrs / $27mil to Naji Marshall. Bench player for the Pelicans. Surprising. I guess he fits the mold of Derrick Jones Jr / PJ Washington. That sort of athletic defensive role player. A bit like DJJ as a shooter though. Reluctant and limited spot up shooter.
