This legitimately makes me sad. The Lowe Post is fundamental basketball podcast listening, as much a part of the NBA culture as the actual games itself.

Whatever happens with him next I hope we get more Zach and Bill crossover content, its some of the best basketball content around.

KOC just left Ringer to go to Yahoo so the natural guess would be Lowe going back to the Ringer.

ESPN has had almost no clue when its come to NBA coverage since acquiring the TV rights in the early 2000s.  The amount of turnover they've had with the studio show alone shows how inept they are.

I guess with NBC & Amazon both coming into the picture soon, getting someone like Lowe would be a huge coup for establishing some credibility with their NBA coverage.

He's not going to have a shortage of opportunities, for sure. Just a head-scratching decision by ESPN. But as I said, they seem to be more focused on rage baiting and hot takes because it brings in the biggest bucks so I shouldn't be so perplexed by it.

Williamson also made a point of showing up for the team?s voluntary workouts in California in late August, despite knowing he had to leave early to participate in a previously scheduled Jordan Brand event in China. It was his first time participating in one of the team?s offseason voluntary workouts. ?(I want to) learn from (Brandon Ingram). Learn from CJ (McCollum). Learn from guys who have been in the league longer than me. Paying attention to their professionalism,? Williamson says. ?Not even being a good teammate, just being a good brother. So when you get on the court, your teammates believe in you. They trust your work, and they trust that you?ve got them.? ? via New York Times

Is Zion Williamson finally going to play like a professional?  Play to his full potential?  If he does, NOP could be good.  Plus they have DeJounte Murray:

The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that the team has acquired guard Dejounte Murray in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks. In exchange, New Orleans has conveyed Dyson Daniels, E.J. Liddell, Larry Nance Jr., Cody Zeller (via sign-and-trade), and two future first round draft picks.  Jul 6, 2024

The Ringer would be a natural fit, or as others have said being the headliner of Amazon for NBA NBA coverage with those TV deals kicking in soon.

He'll have plenty of options. Very sad that ESPN had just doubled down on hot take nonsense.

Makes sense.  Lowe doesn't fit in at a workplace where loud > knowledgeable.

They should take the 'S' out of 'ESPN' at this point.

It's insane that Perk has a job and Lowe doesn't.

NEWS: ESPN has laid off NBA Sr. writer Zach Lowe, The Athletic has learned.

ESPN has parted ways with NBA senior writer Zach Lowe as part of the network?s continuing layoffs, sources briefed on the decision told The Athletic on Thursday.

Lowe follows the earlier dismissals of NFL personalities, Robert Griffin III and Sam Ponder. The moves are part of the network?s fiscal year planning that ends at the conclusion of September. ESPN and Lowe both declined to comment.

It's slim pickings in terms of talent over at ESPN at the moment. They need to hold on to Jay Bilas for dear life.

Does anybody remember Zach (and Brian Robb) from the CelticsHub days?  He was easily the best analytic Celtics blogger in the business.

Crazy to me they dumped Lowe while the likes of Perkins keep their jobs. And after Woj retired + Reddick left (I think Reddick is a smug guy but you can?t deny he was another reasonable analyst in that role)

So is the NBA coverage basically SAS, Perkins, Jefferson and the NBA countdown crew? Big yikes

It's hot garbage.   On the TV side, its night & day with them and TNT.   I seriously don't understand how ESPN has managed to continuous botch the NBA for over 20 years now.

Their business is not about delivering good analysis. It is about getting fan engagement with their content. Perk is one of the best in the business at creating fan engagement with their content. SAS over the last 15-20 years has been their best which is why he always survives whereas many others have lost their job.

It is a bit like those youtube algorhythms. They do not try to find you the most personalized content you would enjoy but instead the content you will most engage with which tends to be content that makes you angry. Angry viewers spend more hours on youtube than happy viewers. They make more money.

ESPN's analyst are in the business of fan engagement. How much is the video shared. Talked about. Commented on. It is not about how good the analysis it. It is about how viral the segment is.

Perk understand this and does it well. He knows the business and what they want from him.

Haha so we shouldn't be mad at Perk because of his idiot takes, we should be mad at ESPN because his idiot takes drive viewership and Perk is just doing what puts butts in the seats and saves his job?   And that is a rhetorical Q and not just at you Who.

It is probably true, but both can be true as well.  Perk says wildly stupid things because he is basically being an actor, and the divisive takes and the hate drives viewership, and Perk is just a clown.  That's my view.

None of that will make me stop holding my nose when the C's are playing on ESPN.  It is like torture watching their pre-game.

Derrick Rose calls it quits after 16 years. What a career he's had. His 2011 MVP season was phenomenal. Definitely one of the best point guards of that time in the league. The 2009 playoff series against us was wild as a rookie leading the Bulls to 7 games. He got all the praises and respect from Pierce and KG. If he wasn't riddled with injuries he would've been something else.

The year we won Banner 17 he was drafted, and the year we won Banner 18 he hangs it up. I'll give him his roses.
