Reason why sweeps in the finals are rare....it is really hard to do.

Look at the greats that never did it....Bird, Magic, Jordan, Lebron.

I figured they would lose game 3 in Dallas. They did not. I did think they would come out and play with more energy last night. That is the disappointing part.

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet. But after this big loss the Celtics are actually trailing in the cumulative score! So if scores would have been added up (like in some other sports) it's Dallas who's winning. Really weird to think about. I hope the Celtics can bounce back without Porzingis who has been rightfully claimed to be our second best player and someone we can't really miss.
Wow, but I suppose a near 40pt drubbing will do that.

Dallas 408 points vs Boston 402 points.

To make up for that 40pts they would have had to have won the previous 3 games by an average of 17pts per game. Gm 1 was 18pts and Gms 2 & 3 were 7pts apiece.

Scott Foster says no sweep

One of the designated NBA series extenders!

Yeah, this stat is largely meaningless given the one outlier game. Will also throw off most of the +/-'s for the series, too.

Meaningless, yes. Keep in mind that if total points was the goal, the games would have been played differently, for example Joe might have played the starters in the 4th quarter of G4. Therefore, 408-402 likely would not have happened.

If that?s something Mavs and their fans want to feel good about, that?s fine. Sort of like feeling good about winning the popular vote but losing in the electoral college. Nothing but a meaningless footnote. You don?t get to be president.

Agreed, if it keeps up through the end of the series and the Celtics win it'll be one of those interesting Jeopardy/pub quiz/trivia night answers.

You'll all be thanking me when we're blowing Dallas out in Boston on Monday and the environment is *chef's kiss* just like Game 6 in 2008.

Game 4 is too late for my 7 year-old to watch,  but we are headed to the West Coast next week, meaning she could see all of Game 5.  She?s a huge fan (and is terribly concerned about JD Davison?s roster status next year), knows who all the refs are and which ones to yell at, and it would be fun to share the excitement of a clinching game with her.

So I?m voting game 5 for personal reasons, but a sweep would be fun, and would give us the third-longest winning streak in a single postseason in NBA history.  It?s a win-win.  Let?s just not go 6.  That would be much less fun.

The kiddo watched none of game 4 and all of game 5, and it was a ton of fun.  Worked out for me, and as the Celtics won #18, I?d say worked out for us all!

I lurk still, and tonight I'm drunk and my daughter didn't wake up despite all the yelling, cheering, and dogs deciding my 2008 celtics hat was some sort of monster.

Its been an amazing night. Happy for the team and the old friends here.
