Game 4 is too late for my 7 year-old to watch,  but we are headed to the West Coast next week, meaning she could see all of Game 5.  She?s a huge fan (and is terribly concerned about JD Davison?s roster status next year), knows who all the refs are and which ones to yell at, and it would be fun to share the excitement of a clinching game with her.

So I?m voting game 5 for personal reasons, but a sweep would be fun, and would give us the third-longest winning streak in a single postseason in NBA history.  It?s a win-win.  Let?s just not go 6.  That would be much less fun.

It's Friday night. Make her stay awake and watch. It may be a while before we may all see it happen again as getting back here is already tough. That being said, hope there is no Game 5.

and a fun fact for those who might be interested in such things.

the celtics have not lost a game in 35 days.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

A sweep means more...
-No team has swept the final two rounds.,
-80-20 record puts them in elite group of wins for a year*,
-A sweep ends the "players got hurt" gripe, because Dallas' two stars are more talented than any star that was previous out against us.

ASSUMING the long-standing precedent of teams being down 0-3 losing the series and we close it out within the next two games, what would you prefer: a sweep in Dallas or a win at home in Game 5?

While a sweep is probably the smartest decision given KP?s injury and the narratives would be awesome given how many people picked the Mavs, I have to admit that I?m almost leaning towards a home win in Game 5 to close it out. Just imagine that environment with us winning # 18 at home! I can imagine us bringing in a lot of the Celtics greats - KG, Pierce, Rondo, Smart (💔) - showing them at points throughout the game on the Jumbotron and them keeping that crowd raucous and rowdy the entire time. Would be special - even if just watching it from home.

What do you think?
Not Smart. He is currently a player on an opposing team. Don?t get me wrong, I love Marcus, but that is just not appropriate and I REALLY doubt Marcus would want to be there.

Eh, it?s not like they were competitive this year or one of our rivals. Actually given our relationships with Memphis? team/front office, I think Memphis is probably one of our better organizational relationships in the league.

And I would bet that Smart would absolutely want to be here to support his friends/former teammates - hard feelings be danged.
Well I guess we are going to find out who is right very soon. Marcus Smart has other ways of congratulating his FORMER teammates. If it were me, it would be too painful to witness such success, knowing I could have possibly been a part of it and possibly will never get that close again.

Wake her up a few minutes before clinching?

That is definitely the plan for tomorrow, but it would still be more fun to see the entire game.  As I say, win-win.  I?ve felt very confident that we?d win this series in four or five since the matchup was set, so tomorrow?s game is essentially house money for me emotionally.

Okay, for starters, what kind of superpower parenting skills do you have that you can get your 7 year old in bed that early on a weekend/summer night?! It?s a win if my wife and I can get my 6 and 9 year old in bed before midnight this summer haha

But I definitely get what you mean. Both of my boys are hardcore baseball players and aren?t super interested in basketball - no idea where that came from - but my 9 year old sat on the couch and watched last night?s win with me and it was great.

Let her stay up. That?s a memory you?ll always have together. I?ve already told my wife and boys they have to watch game 4 and share that memory with me - screaming at the tv and all! ;D

The superpower is that we keep bedtime the same every night.  Her body falls asleep by 915 every night, and she is ready to wake up by 715 for school the next morning.  Change it on the weekends, and she cannot handle the weekdays.  She has no prayer of staying up until 11 even if we let her because her internal sleep schedule will take over.  Even with sleepovers and friends who demand that they will all stay up until midnight she?s asleep by 1015.

But she will get the final minutes at a minimum.  She was awake for 20 minutes last month to get a Northern Lights view after a hastily planned drive to Maine that she slept through, and she still remembers the experience vividly, so I think we?ll carry some of this memory too.

That's not too late for her, particularly on a Friday night... she can stay up for a few more hours for sure. It's not like an habitual thing, but I don't know what her schedule is the next day or her circumstances.

Just my opinion.

She has a soccer game at 8:30 the next morning and then a cross-country flight in the evening.  She needs her sleep.  And with a regular bedtime of 8:30 that she keeps virtually every night, it?s pretty unlikely she could power through the entire game anyway.

I?ll be happy if we win in 4 or 5.  Ultimately I?ll be happy if we win in 7, because that banner will always be there.  If I had to pick the optimal option for me, it would be 5, but the Celtics shouldn?t be concerned about little old me.  Believe me, I like watching Kyrie get swept!

Yeah, that 8:30am game in the morning is the killer, else I'd say screw her usual schedule and let her watch the game! lol

Oh well, good luck to her in the soccer game.

A schedule matters - it sounds great to me.  Also sounds like you do a lot to make positive family memories.

It?s great that you and others can share sports with your family. My wife and I will be celebrating our 35th in a few weeks - and I don?t think we?ve watched a sporting event together. Wait no - the Olympics.  My daughters are 33 and 29 - neither into sports. But? we connect on other things and they humor me when I share my sports excitement.

I know how intense and important those Saturday morning soccer games can be for 7 year olds.  If she doesn't do well in that, she might not get that college scholarship!

Skip the soccer game (or at least give her the choice).

In all likelihood, watching the Finals is probably more important to her than the soccer game, and she'll remember watching that Finals game with you for the rest of her life, one of her cherished memories.  (Plus being tired on a cross country flight sounds like a win to me).

I remember my dad prioritizing my rec league sports over other fun activities that might spring up at the last minute, and I always hated it.  "No you can't stay up late for this, you have a game tomorrow." Trust me,  I'd rather have done whatever thing it was than the rec league game the next day (even though I loved sports).  I vividly remember a couple of specific times where this came up, and that's probably one of the least fond memories I have of my dad (he was a great dad though).

But I say this now from the West Coast, where I no longer have this issue, and am able to put my 3 year old to bed after the game every night  ;)

I'd prefer to just win.  It's going to be a short summer, particularly for JT and Jrue, so the sooner it begins the better.  Plus, they can keep their win streak going and finish out 16-2, which would be cool.

I get celebrating on the home court, but they will receive plenty of cheers on the duck boats.

My rational brain agrees with this.  But winning in the garden and the ensuing bedlam would be something else...

The sweep is better there will be plenty of time to celebrate when the job is done.

Don?t give Dallas any life. We saw first hand what can happen last season.

Everyone seems to assume the series is over.  But it isn?t. A win on Friday and they just need the upset in Boston to be legitimately back in the series.  Win tomorrow.

Win it whenever you can - coming out lackadaisical on Friday with the idea that it would be fun to win in front of our home crowd is crazy.
This group has been thru too much pain to take anything for granted.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Geesh, what type of kid do you think I have?  College scholarships, lol.  I love my child, but college athlete is not in her future.

In all seriousness, she will be disappointed to miss either.  So there?s no reason to pit the two choices against each other for her, and instead I can take the choice out of her hands.  She loves soccer, despite being awful at it (she?s no better than the second-worst on her 10-player team that?s closest game was a 4-goal loss).  And this after she refused to try any sport, including basketball, until a couple of months ago.  So as a parent, it?s best for her to keep doing something she?s not good at on a losing team, because we can?t only do the things we?re good at in life.  And as she enjoys it, and has begged to sign up for it again in the fall despite said lack of success, then it?s a pretty easy call.  She goes to soccer.  If she hated it, sure, she could watch the game, and fall asleep on me when it got too late, and I?d wake her up for the final minutes.  So instead I?ll enjoy a game 4 win, but not be disappointed because a game 4 loss works out well for me too.
