Game 4 is too late for my 7 year-old to watch, but we are headed to the West Coast next week, meaning she could see all of Game 5. She?s a huge fan (and is terribly concerned about JD Davison?s roster status next year), knows who all the refs are and which ones to yell at, and it would be fun to share the excitement of a clinching game with her.
So I?m voting game 5 for personal reasons, but a sweep would be fun, and would give us the third-longest winning streak in a single postseason in NBA history. It?s a win-win. Let?s just not go 6. That would be much less fun.
That's not too late for her, particularly on a Friday night... she can stay up for a few more hours for sure. It's not like an habitual thing, but I don't know what her schedule is the next day or her circumstances.
Just my opinion.
She has a soccer game at 8:30 the next morning and then a cross-country flight in the evening. She needs her sleep. And with a regular bedtime of 8:30 that she keeps virtually every night, it?s pretty unlikely she could power through the entire game anyway.
I?ll be happy if we win in 4 or 5. Ultimately I?ll be happy if we win in 7, because that banner will always be there. If I had to pick the optimal option for me, it would be 5, but the Celtics shouldn?t be concerned about little old me. Believe me, I like watching Kyrie get swept!
Yeah, that 8:30am game in the morning is the killer, else I'd say screw her usual schedule and let her watch the game! lol
Oh well, good luck to her in the soccer game.
I know how intense and important those Saturday morning soccer games can be for 7 year olds. If she doesn't do well in that, she might not get that college scholarship!
Skip the soccer game (or at least give her the choice).
In all likelihood, watching the Finals is probably more important to her than the soccer game, and she'll remember watching that Finals game with you for the rest of her life, one of her cherished memories. (Plus being tired on a cross country flight sounds like a win to me).
I remember my dad prioritizing my rec league sports over other fun activities that might spring up at the last minute, and I always hated it. "No you can't stay up late for this, you have a game tomorrow." Trust me, I'd rather have done whatever thing it was than the rec league game the next day (even though I loved sports). I vividly remember a couple of specific times where this came up, and that's probably one of the least fond memories I have of my dad (he was a great dad though).
But I say this now from the West Coast, where I no longer have this issue, and am able to put my 3 year old to bed after the game every night
