This was the one issue we all had with the bench. If KP misses playoff time do they have enough?

Kornet and Tillman are good regular season fillers but nowhere near good enough to play consistent minutes at this level.

Boston needed a legit inside presence especially on defense to make up for the KP injuries

Unfortunately it was a case of do we spend the $$$ on Jrue or stick with Brogdon and Timelord to give us a backup big. There just wasn't enough money to go around with everyone we had. We would have had to give someone good up to get someone good, who would still have been the 3rd big in the rotation.

In another universe we might have not traded for Jrue and rolled with White and PP as the two lead guards and had Timelord as the third big...but then the issue would be lack of point guard depth if one of them got hurt.

I'm getting the impression that the only real remedy for Porzingis' injury is surgery.
Rest alone is not going to put the tendon back in place.
Repair it immediately after the finals are over and spend the summer healing.
The question is, can he do more damage by playing on it now ?

A day or a week won't do much to repair it. They just have to decide if it's worth risking further damage if he plays, and if he does can he be effective or will he be hobbled. It's not the injury per se that's the concern as much as the risk that more damage to his foot could occur, with the worst case being a posterior tibialis dislocation. That's why he's not hobbling, he's shooting in practice, because it's not injury itself as much as what could be aggravated as a result of it which is the issue. The flexor retinaculum is a stabilizing tendon, it helps to hold the posterior tibialis (which is one of the most important tendons in the foot, which connects the calf muscle to the foot) in place. If it is torn or damaged it increases the risk of other tendons in the foot, including the posterior tibialis, to shift out of place. If you do then you've got a big problem. Those types of dislocations are very rate - but they do happen.

That's what the medical team has to make a determination on - what would be the % chance that the loads that KP would put on his foot would be enough to cause a more serious injury, including a dislocation? Can they stabilize it enough externally to reduce the risk to something that is acceptable?

Timelord wouldn't have stayed healthy either, he didn't even play at all this season if I recall. And Brogdon was simply not good enough. Jrue is infinitely better. It sucks KP has issues staying healthy, but I cannot see a world where this team would have been better with Brogdon/Williams instead of Jrue.

Backup Boston Celtics big man Xavier Tillman Sr. recently spoke about how star Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis has looked at practice of late as he works his way back from a rare foot injury sustained earlier in the finals, telling the assembled media that was present that ?He?s doing some stuff, but you can still tell he?s very uncomfortable.?

The KP minutes are crucial. Tillman was not nearly as effective in game 4. Do they go with Kornet?

It is tough all three options (Kornet, Tillman, Brissett) have their issues.  I would go with Kornet for 4 minutes in the first half and Brisset/Tillman for 4 in the second half.  Just think the longer you play either of those three, the worse they will look as Dallas figures out how to attack them.  Keep them guessing a bit feels like the best option.

Luckily, Horford got the extra day of rest.  Milk as much as you can out of him - I agree that making them guess when he comes out of the game would probably work best.  Maybe we even see Tatum at the 5.

I had no idea you could milk a Horford.

Short of a blowout, it is hard to imagine that Brissett will play tonight.

KP is going to have surgery on his torn medial retinaculum in the offseason and will have an expected recovery time of a few months.

Quote
BOSTON -- Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis returned to the court for Game 5 of the NBA Finals, playing through a rare left leg injury that he told ESPN will require surgery and will have a recovery process of a "few months."

Porzingis suffered a torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in Game 2 -- an injury the team actually described as "rare" in its news release.

"Of course," Porzingis told ESPN, when asked if he was concerned about making his injury worse by playing on it. "I think something could have happened, for sure, especially compensating now on the other leg now, which I just came back from.

"There was definitely some added risk, but I didn't care. I was like, 'I want to give everything I can and then fix it after if I need to.'"

Kudos to him for gutting it out the way he did.
