The Celtics just announced Kristaps Porzingis is day-to-day with a left leg injury. He also appeared to tweak his right leg in Game 2.

Joe Mazzulla says this is a ?serious injury? and the Celtics? medical team will make the decision about Kristaps Porzingis? availability. ?He?s doing anything and everything he can to be able to play,? Mazzulla said.

Combined with KP acting fine, there seems to be some gamesmanship going on here, perhaps in response to the crap they pulled with Luka?s availability.

It?s either a ?serious injury? or he?s ?day to day?. Both literally cant be true at the same time, at least in terms of a common understanding of what a serious injury entails.

Now the question is this: is the gamesmanship more positive or negative for us? Is it not as big of a deal as is being let on, or is it a bigger deal and it?s unlikely we see him the rest of the way?

Idk but now the odds jumped to BOS +2.5. Tomorrow by tipoff it probably gonna be DAL -3.5 lol

If I had to guess, KP doesn't play tomorrow and if it's 2-1, he might play on limited basis Game 4. If they happen to go up 3-0, maybe they hold him out Game 4 as well.

They are not kidding when they called Porzingis' injury rare: A 2006 study said there were just 32 documented cases of a dislocated posterior tibial tendon in all of English literature.

Alright, time to read up on the literature to figure out severities and timelines.

I'll be right back with the results

Based on what we just heard that wasn't KP.

Upon more reflection, I?m betting Joe used the term ?serious? to mean in terms of it being real/not fake instead of in a severity sense. It just may be an injury that he can play through. That makes more sense with all of the other information.

But, golly, Tatum is going to have to pop out of his shooting slump if there?s no KP. It?d be a good time to repeat a 2022 Game 6 in Milwaukee.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Make no mistake Boston will be fine with Al in the game.

It?s when Al needs to rest that it?s going to get tricky. I do not think Kornet can even hold the fort down in those minutes.

Playing Brissett gives you zero on offense.

Tillman is stapled to the bench.

This is the time we need JT and JB to get it going. I?m not really concerned about losing Porzingis on offense. I?m really concerned about his rim protection.

The Celtics dropped from -1000 to -820 on fan duel to win the Finals. As soon as i saw that I new KP injury had something to do with it.

KP is done.

Gonna go have to close the show without him. Extra day off helps Horford, gonna need him to play 35 minutes.

Just to be clear, the only one saying this is you, and I?ll assume you have no more information than anyone else.

That medical article linked above mentioned surgery being necessary, so I'm not as confident as you are:

. Conservative treatment is uniformly unsuccessful in the literature. Surgical stabilization by relocating the tendon and repairing or reconstructing the flexor retinaculum, with or without groove deepening, has been shown to be highly successful, with most patients returning to their pre-injury level of function.

So is this something he can play through? I know nothing of this injury.

He pulls Dallas's bigs away from the paint too. Kornet won't do that. Time for Tatum to earn his pay check.

If it's a rare injury, I'm not sure relying on the C's medical staff for making the call as to whether he'd sustain more damage by playing is the wisest thing for him.  Thinking back to the McHale foot thing. Were I Porzingis I'd want an outside opinion.

My initial Google understanding is that it?s considered rare because it?s normally associated with an additional trauma to the leg or knee, as opposed to it being injured on its own.  There?s a pain management issue and a bit of stability issue, but I think they let him go in at least Game 4 with some minutes restriction.  Probably kills his Olympics tho.

As per Dr. Evan Jeffries (aka @GameInjuryDoc on X):

?The posterior tibialis tendon does not dislocate so need some wording clarification here

But essentially the medial retinaculum willl support the patella when torn it can affect stability of the knee

Question is did posterior tibialis tendon tear?

Regardless no way he is playing the rest of the series?

The gamesmanship is the Celtics saying he?s day to day when they really know he?s not.

IMO Boston is gonna have to cobble together two more wins with the guys they have left.
