Kristaps Porzingis says he?s optimistic about playing Game 3 and he?ll do everything he can to play.

I?m confused. Joe said this is serious yet KP seems totally relaxed

Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis suffered what the team called a "rare injury" to his left leg and is considered day to day for Boston's upcoming games in the NBA Finals.

The Celtics announced Tuesday that Porzingis has a torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg.

Dislocation of a tendon?  Let's pull a Curt Schilling and staple it back into place.

Edit:

Quote from: John Hopkins
The posterior tibialis tendon is a strong cord of tissue. It's one of the most important tendons in your leg. It attaches the posterior tibialis muscle on the back of your calf to the bones on the inside of your foot. It helps support your foot and hold up its arch when you are walking.

Ugh, it?s just never ending.

This becomes a much more losable series if KP can?t go the rest of the way. If an extra day or two of rest would substantially benefit him, sit him out game 3 and potentially even game 4 with the hope that we can get one of these on the road and bring him back to win it all game 5.

I?m all for playing small vs Dallas.

White
Jrue
Pp
JB
jt

Would be a better choice than Kornet in the game.
I do not think we will see KP in Dallas as they try to get him ready for game 5

Just one more thing that the national media will use to downplay the Celtics chance to win the series. Going to have to prove them all wrong again.

I have to assume that if something is torn, a few days of rest isn?t going to matter.

The whole thing is really weird. Check out this video of him walking at practice - it's like nobody told him anything is wrong

Maybe this is our version of mind games with Dallas.  Will Porzingis play or won?t he?  Make them have two game plans.

Gafford and Lively are going to exploit Kornet in the paint. Horford eating up big minutes will cause him to fatigue. Dallas will figure out how to attack us now by involving Gafford and Lively more.

It's so unfortunate that we bubble wrapped Porzingis and even limited him on games in the regular season and now he has something torn in his leg in the biggest stage. It just reminds us that eventually we'll need a durable big man to continue our dominance.

Jayson needs to start putting up 30 ppg on the Mavs. No more 6-22 FGs.

If it's a rare injury, I'm not sure relying on the C's medical staff for making the call as to whether he'd sustain more damage by playing is the wisest thing for him.  Thinking back to the McHale foot thing. Were I Porzingis I'd want an outside opinion.

Torn?? Done for the season then.

Whole new series and gives Dallas new signs of life. Ugh

I don't think that is what it means. I tore my post tib tendon when I was younger, and it healed with PRP injections in a couple of weeks. The retinaculum is the thick band of fascia. At this point, I imagine they can hit him with Toradol or some other numbing agent to get through the series.

It's interesting to see him walking with sandals on. I couldn't do that without pain. I had a walking boot.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

The Celtics just announced Kristaps Porzingis is day-to-day with a left leg injury. He also appeared to tweak his right leg in Game 2.

Quote
Joe Mazzulla says this is a ?serious injury? and the Celtics? medical team will make the decision about Kristaps Porzingis? availability. ?He?s doing anything and everything he can to be able to play,? Mazzulla said.

Combined with KP acting fine, there seems to be some gamesmanship going on here, perhaps in response to the crap they pulled with Luka?s availability.

It?s either a ?serious injury? or he?s ?day to day?. Both literally cant be true at the same time, at least in terms of a common understanding of what a serious injury entails.

Now the question is this: is the gamesmanship more positive or negative for us? Is it not as big of a deal as is being let on, or is it a bigger deal and it?s unlikely we see him the rest of the way?

I think we're just gonna have to bank on our current starting 5 including Horford, as well as PP + Hauser to just win the next two for us. It'd be nice if Hauser could hit some shots.

Relying on KP just doesn't seem realistic, even if he can play he's probably gonna be even more limited.

Horford's minutes might have to go up slightly but honestly, we've had so many days off during the postseason and it's the Finals. Just step it up for another week and it'll be over after anyways.

KP is done.

Gonna go have to close the show without him. Extra day off helps Horford, gonna need him to play 35 minutes.
