As per Dr. Evan Jeffries (aka @GameInjuryDoc on X):

?The posterior tibialis tendon does not dislocate so need some wording clarification here

This says differently:  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1888604/

The gamesmanship is the Celtics saying he?s day to day when they really know he?s not.

IMO Boston is gonna have to cobble together two more wins with the guys they have left.

Honestly if they can't muster two more wins without KP against this Mavs team then this season was a collosal failure. Still should be no excuses when you have Tatum and Brown in your starting lineup along with two All NBA 2nd team defenders.

When Al goes to the bench they should move JT to the center position. Bring in Hauser for him.

Better off playing small with the possibility of all 5 guys on the court being able to shoot from 3.

Kornet will get abused by lively and gafford on both ends.

That's not quite what he said.  He said that KP wants to play, and he hasn't been ruled out yet.  Joe says that the decision is out of KP's hands.

This seems like a pain tolerance thing over causing more damage.

Hope he can get you 20 good minutes.

I agree Tatum is a good rebounder and should be able to defend Washington/Gafford/Lively.

We may need to sneak in a few Kornet minutes, but I say give Hauser and Pritchard more of the minutes.

So now you really think this team is good as opposed to how you referred to the team throughout the season?

As Boston?s Kristaps Porzingis told reporters, he?s determined and expects to continue to try and play with this tendon injury in the Finals. For now, there?s no indication he?ll be ruled out and not permitted to try in Game 3, sources said.

Boston has been fortunate to get good rest throughout the playoffs.

Now is the time to ride your horses a bit longer. JT, JB, white, jrue, pp and Hauser can give you more minutes

Even Al can if need be.

Upon more reflection, I?m betting Joe used the term ?serious? to mean in terms of it being real/not fake instead of in a severity sense. It just may be an injury that he can play through. That makes more sense with all of the other information.

But, golly, Tatum is going to have to pop out of his shooting slump if there?s no KP. It?d be a good time to repeat a 2022 Game 6 in Milwaukee.

That medical article linked above mentioned surgery being necessary, so I'm not as confident as you are:

Quote
. Conservative treatment is uniformly unsuccessful in the literature. Surgical stabilization by relocating the tendon and repairing or reconstructing the flexor retinaculum, with or without groove deepening, has been shown to be highly successful, with most patients returning to their pre-injury level of function.

I mean, surgery being necessary doesn't necessarily mean he can?t play through it for another two weeks, though. There?s lots of things that players play through that eventually need surgery in the offseason. It?s just a benefit to risk/harm analysis of whether to play through it or not.

All that said, I do still doubt it?s that serious and that we don?t have any expectation that KP plays again. The NBA has cracked down on the injury reporting, and with it being the Finals it?ll be highly scrutinized. Could be a big fine if we?re misreporting this as day to day when there?s no expectation of him playing again.

If he can't do anymore damage you play. Pain tolerance is a trade off for a championship.

I think there is some gamesmanship here. I am hopeful its not as bad as it seems.

Boston can and should still win this series with or without KP. I have faith in Al.
