Mac Jones lighting it up again. Goes to show what a great O-Line and weapons can do for you. Again, I don't think he's an elite QB but I also don't think he was "worse than all other 31 starting QBs" level bad. The Pats just had a horrible O-Line, no elite receivers and poor coaching (Patricia, Judge, and even Belichick slipped in recent years).

I'm watching some of the game and he's making throws that I don't think he could in New England because he had no time to throw AND the receivers for JAX are actually catching them (not like Devante Parker or JuJu Smith-Schuster just dropping them)

Was it a mistake to get rid of Mac Jones? Seller's remorse typa stuff?

No matter how good he looks, we had to get rid of Mac if we wanted to draft a QB #3 overall. That QB room was not inna good place and bringing Maye into it would have been a mistake.
I'm bitter.

It is preseason for everyone.  Are all the QBs putting up better stats?  Are most of them?

Plenty of them are, particularly backups who are playing against deep roster players who are unlikely to be in the league.  Guys like Jones or Rypien or any other backup that's lighting it up aren't going to succeed against first-string NFL defenses that are running a full playbook.

But, I'm happy to be wrong, as the preseason Bears look like they're about to go 20-0.  Dominant wins over the Chiefs, Bills and Bengals?  Our 5th WR / KR leading the league in rushing?  Our practice squad Edge leading the league in sacks, with our 5th round rookie right behind him?  Championship!

Mac needed and wanted the hell out of there.  As a Bama fan, I'm happy that he appears to be in a much better situation.  Tua survived Flores and is thriving now.  Hopefully Mac is on his way now and fingers crossed with the Panthers replacing Reich Bryce is in a much better situation too.

Yeah he has a vastly better roster around him now.

I think a lot of Patriot fans still don't grasp just how poor our offensive talent level has been the last half decade, especially the past 2 seasons.

I'd been watching a lot of NFL Sunday Ticket/non Pats games, and other teams receivers' create better separation, make better cuts, contest balls, etc. And most other o-lines block better too. But our receiving squad was college-level last year.

Nix and Mac are clearly separated at the top.  I don't know what's considered a good rating but only 6 QBs are above 90.  Not saying Mac will be a top NFL QB but no reason he can't be a solid starting QB.

Mac showed what he could do at Bama.  His 2020 performance was every bit as good as Burrow's 2019 performance at LSU but Mac played against a 10-games SEC schedule without Vanderbilt whereas Burrow's performance included 4 games against cupcakes.

The o-line and receiving issues were bad but Mac was clearly beaten down and his confidence was shot.  When it came out that Mac was reaching outside the organization for help, there was a lot of hubbub and Mac took some grief (unfairly in my opinion) but it shows how terrible the coaching and the organization as a whole was.

Mac Jones, 2021, great rookie season, 2022, kind of just OK, 2023, flat out bad.  I don't' know which is the "real" Mac Jones.  In 2023, there were OL issues, that was probably the biggest issue, because the OL was so bad, the offense really couldn't do anything complicated.  But Mac Jones was bad that season.  I have no remorse on moving on from Mac.  I do not believe he will be the answer for the Patriots.

I hope Mac becomes a decent starting QB. Is that what Pats fans want?

Obviously we don?t know what Drake Maye will be, but I think we can be pretty sure Mac will not be a top tier NFL QB. If he does become that, then Pats blew it.  More likely they were better off moving on.

We also have to factor in Matt Patricia coaching offense in one of those years. That also contributed Mac to being a disaster of a QB

Sure, but we can compare how Mac looks in preseason to the other QB?s who are also playing in preseason. Mac has looked better than both Brissett and Maye.
