I love Judon but given the timeline and his age + recent injuries, I just don't think he was gonna be a long term option here anyways. Yeah sucks we didn't get much back for him but I don't think we were gonna get more than a 3rd round pick going forward, especially if he had a poor season or got hurt again. I think it was time to move on.

He was becoming a distraction.

Meh, he's hardly the first or the last to hold out for an extension, but I had already gotten pretty sick of braindead coverage about "he's playing for only $6.5M".

No, he signed a perfectly good deal with annual averages of more than twice that, loaded with guaranteed money and advances. He's top-20 paid at his position, where practically every guy ahead of him has a more recent deal and is 3-5 years younger. And he missed most of last season.

So yeah, sure, he's perfectly free to have a good year and see if he can get $15M-$20M/year from the highest bidder, but the whole holdout-for-an-extension game is never that respectable of a look. Glad we got a pretty decent pick for him and kept our loads of cash.

I think Judon was just asking for way too much. And I'm not defending the Pats lack of spending because they still have over 50M in cap space and have given out a ton of extensions to their own guys in recent months.

But if it really was over a few million I think the Pats get it done. Judon must be asking for a hefty raise, like almost double his annual salary next year + a lot more guaranteed.

I am curious though if he pulls these theatrics in Atlanta or if he's fine playing there for 6.5M

You guys make some good points, and it certainly is ridiculous whenever a player complains about a contract he willingly signed. It's just that "Patriots" and "great pass rush" have not usually been synonymous, so I hate to see them lose a guy who, when healthy, was great at getting to the QB.

But it's not like the Pats were gonna be great this year, anyway, lol.

Though it doesn't make much sense, I wonder if the Pats had succeeded in landing Aiyuk if that would have influenced whether or not to keep Judon.  It's possible that getting Aiyuk would have signaled some interest in making progress this year, while the Judon trade clearly puts the bow on the focus of rebuilding, recrafting the team.  Maybe the Aiyuk trade wouldn't have impacted Judon given that Aiyuk could be seen as a future asset given his age, but I think it would have felt a little strange to get Aiyuk and follow that by trading your best defensive player (probably best player period) for future considerations.

I did not believe that they were ever getting Aiyuk or Ridley or Hopkins. I don?t think Kraft will spend the money until the Pats have a franchise QB. I?m sure they are hoping that guy is Maye, but it?s way too early to tell. Hopefully he gets a bit more playing time tonight.

The time to ease Drake Maye in was last week against Carolina's 3rd stringers. I think PHI is gonna play a lot of their main guys as well and the last thing we need is to see Maye just scrambling around and getting pummeled because our O-Line is trash and receivers can barely get separation. I fear that'll happen. PHI has been manhandling our guys in joint practices.

But hey, we absolutely needed those 36 (out of 64 total for the team) snaps from Zappe last week!  ::)

Our tackles are just putrid. Lowe, Okorafor.... and I shudder to think who the backups even are for those two

Great drive from Maye there, leading to a FG. Even that ball to Baker was great, he was just running a little out of bounds with the CB making a good play. Maye already to me looks poised and confident, more so than what I've seen from Brissett so far in the preseason games. Hope we see more of Maye tonight even into the 3rd.

I'm half-exaggerating but that read option play and keeper with the raising of the ball after passing the endzone to me looked "Josh Allen-esque", which could be Maye's ceiling. He has the size/build/athleticism.

I have no idea what Maye is going to be....but at this point his ceiling and floor are higher than Brissett.

I feel like he opens up the playbook so much more than Brissett. I think you play him unless you are worried about hurting his development with a lack of offensive support.

Sucks he dropped that but what a DIME from Maye there!

Maye's mobility and deep ball are something we haven't really had in the years post-Brady. I guess we had the mobility briefly with Cam Newton but his arm/shoulder was just washed. Maye's deep ball also looks effortless, like just a flick and it's going long.
