He's worth a second-round pick.

Based on what?

G League finals MVP. Good defender, a good athlete, and 21 years old.

My brother, Chris Douglas-Roberts spent multiple years looking like Lebron in the G-league but was never more than replacement-level in the NBA.  Forgive me if I don't see that as a sign of his value.

In theory, if Pritchard goes down then Springer can step in to give us similar defensive effort while the ballhandling duties fall to somebody else.  Shooting... let's not talk about that part.  But he does try on defense.

I just don't think that's worth a pick unless, again, our front office and coaches think they see something in the kid.

I will concede that Philly fans are kinda p---ed about this, so that might be a good sign.

Was Chris Douglas-Roberts 21 the whole time he was in the G League? Did he play any games in the NBA at 21? Did Chris Douglas-Roberts do this to Jayson Tatum?

Or this to Tillman?

Springer is a big defensive combo guard, no?

That sounds useful. Good alternative to Pritchard if Pritchard is getting beaten up on defensively in the playoffs. A bigger guard who can handle the ball.

I haven't watched him much in the NBA; is he better than Banton?

I haven't seen a lot of him but I liked the look of him when I saw him play a couple of times for Philly this year.

I saw a fair bit of Banton in Toronto. I do not like his game. He needs to commit to being hustle based forward instead of pretending to be a ball-handler.

This was the dude that blocked Tatum- I agree with dumping Baton - I had seen enough. who's at the end of the Roster. Queta, Luke, Svi, Brisett, - We lost Baton and Stevens.

I'm very happy with our trade deadline.

I’m pretty sure that this is the first time that those words have ever been uttered here.

My take on the trade deadline..

Brad traded for a big in the Al Horford archetype who really just needs to shoot to unlock his ceiling

Brad traded for a guard in the Holiday archetype who really just needs to shoot to unlock his ceiling

Both Tillman and Springer where guys I really liked as draft prospects, both will have the benefit of watching physically similar vets play their positions ahead of them on the depth chart.

I've said it multiple times. When we got White and when we got Isaiah Thomas...

I assume Sam Cassell worked with him in Philly so I'm sure the Celtics know what they're getting.

OK, time to update the roster slotting a little (I thought we were done):

White              Holiday            Springer
Brown             Pritchard          Mykhailiuk
Tatum             Hauser             Walsh
Horford           Tillman             Brissett
Porzingis         Kornet              OPEN (Queta)

(Queta is a 2-way)

I like Tillman over Stevens and I like Springer over Banton (albeit based on not a lot regarding Springer).  Tillman likely will play and help the team now (where Stevens would not) and Springer seems like a better prospect than Banton.

Now if a decent buyout becomes available, we could cut Mykhailiuk or just not convert Queta to a regular roster spot.  That would make Queta ineligible for the playoff roster but I believe he would still be an RFA at the end of the season.  We would not necessarily lose him, in fact as an RFA, we could match any offer if we wanted to match.

Here's something about him from Philly:

https://www.libertyballers.com/2023/10/23/23926210/jaden-springer-film-study-philadelphia-76ers-basketball

Brad sure loves Defensive players who can't shoot.

NBADraft.net writeup

Strengths: Scrappy, young combo guard with a defensive focus and an expanding offensive game … Didn’t take a ton of threes, but shot 43.5% on them. Shot 81% from the free throw stripe … Easily repeatable jump shot mechanics … Does a very good job of regaining his balance when making offensive moves, allowing him to make difficult shots … Excels at using the rim or his body to protect his shots in the paint by using reverse layups  … Smooth athlete who is able to get to the paint against defenders. Is able to create and take away space from defenders to keep them off balance … Is good at making pull up jumpers either off the bounce or off a pseudo post up … Even when defenders expect it, he’s able to get his shot off … Moves well off the ball and is able to use screens effectively … Can be disruptive defensively, had 5 games with 3 steals … Is a willing facilitator, recording 5 or more assists in 7 games …

Weaknesses: Lacks elite explosiveness … Appears to be more of a 2 than a combo, and lacks size on the wing at 6’4 … Doesn’t possess high level athleticism, relies on angles and reading what the defense is giving him.  ..Has trouble taking care of the ball, averaging 2.4 turnovers per game … Needs to develop more lead guard skills so that he can be a secondary ball hander at the next level. Could be overmatched athletically and physically at the next level. Shot is mechanically sound, but lacks fluidity and can be slow to load up at times. Relies on others to get his scoring opportunities off of cuts, not somebody that will break people down off the bounce.
