The 76ers are trading Jaden Springer to the Celtics for a second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

Weird Sixers moves, dealing with rivals. 

And why are we taking on an inefficient SG?

Curious if we’re also sending a min player in return.

I hope so.  Even then, I *think* Springer has like a $4 million contract last year.  Why would we want that, especially if we had to give up a #2?  We should be the team getting the pick.

I’m guessing they simply like him.  I was hoping the C’s would get a 3rd year 1st rounder a team was moving off of, so in style I like this move.  Not a Springer expert specifically, but I think there are generally bargains to be had with players in that spot of their careers.

He's a good fit as we have trouble guarding the smaller quicker guards. I think he's a move for the future...

Project.  I watched him some at Tennessee and have seen him play a few times for Philly.  Decent-but-not-elite athlete, plays hard and will defend.  Not really a point guard, somewhat undersized for a 2-guard.  In college, he had a sweet jumpshot and good body control around the rim, could finish through contact.  Those skills have not translated to this level at this point. 

Just a warm body at the end of the bench IMO.  Kind of surprised we'd spend a pick on him.  I don't know, maybe Stevens sees something he likes in the kid.  Admittedly he's still very young.

So it is essentially Banton for Springer, plus whatever picks might be involved.  I am not sure I ever recall seeing Springer play.  It seems like a cost cut by PHI and just a swap of a young player that BOS must feel has more potential than Banton.  Springer is 21, Banton 24.

Trading the Chicago 2nd for Springer is very interesting. That's probably like the 40th pick in the draft? I'd think that has more value than Springer. But maybe they actually like him in case they need to move on from Pritchard and his 6.7 million this off season. He makes 4 million next year, so Pritchard to Springer saves 2.7 million. Or maybe his contract is for salary matching next off season. 4 million gives more options than a minimum guy.

Might depend on how much Jrue holiday signs re-signs for this off season, assuming he does. 

Tillman could also serve a similar purpose. FA they will have bird rights on, could sign him to a contract for future trade use. Or maybe he replaces Horford long term at a lower price.

For second apron teams even shaving a few million off a position could be critical moving forward.

Agreed. A legit guard instead of pretend guard.

Banton was always more of a forward and we have Brissett to do the job Banton does and does it better than Banton. Upgrade.

My brother, Chris Douglas-Roberts spent multiple years looking like Lebron in the G-league but was never more than replacement-level in the NBA.  Forgive me if I don't see that as a sign of his value.

In theory, if Pritchard goes down then Springer can step in to give us similar defensive effort while the ballhandling duties fall to somebody else.  Shooting... let's not talk about that part.  But he does try on defense.

I just don't think that's worth a pick unless, again, our front office and coaches think they see something in the kid. 

I will concede that Philly fans are kinda p---ed about this, so that might be a good sign.

Me also. Got two tough-nosed defenders that know their role.

Sixers fans are universally angry over this trade as they really liked Springer and his potential. I see their point - you invest 2 1/2 years into a player and then when he finally starts to show something, you trade him for a 2nd.

I wish it were the Dallas 2nd rather than the Bulls, but I guess Chicago has been playing much better lately, so not quite as juicy as it seemed a month or so ago
