I've seen multiple criticisms of Filipowski:  he's not a rim protector, he's soft, he's not an explosive finisher, and despite having 3PT range his accuracy isn't all that special.  Oh, and he can't play PF.

In other words, he's the type of guy who often falls to the second round.  Maybe he's just a younger Nick Fazekas.

Thoughts?

Frank Kaminsky

i'm at a point where i'm pretty sure all three are effectively the same person to me no matter how different they might actually be.

All of those are question marks for sure. On the other hand I've seen people who think he's mobile enough to play either PF or C, who think he's actually an underrated rim protector and who really love his passing.

Anybody available in the late first or early second will have flaws. You aren't getting the next KP in the 30's. I'm not sure this guy will ever be a high level starter but I think he stands a very good chance at being rotational big with the rare dribble/pass/shoot skill. that's worth taking a shot on in the 30's.

Honestly the best comparison is Kelly Olynyk. Maybe mot quite the range of Olynyk but i think he's better moving laterally.

My picks ( Without nearly as much research as past years) are:

Baylor Scheierman with the 30th pick 6′ 6.25? barefoot, 8′ 6.50? standing reach, 201.6 lbs, 6′ 8.25? wingspan. 38% from 3. He's 23 years old

Quinten Post with the 54th pick 7′ 0.00? barefoot, 244.4 lbs, 7′ 2.50? wingspan, 9′ 4.00? standing reach 43% from 3. He's 24 years old.

Two shooting bench players who are older with skills.

Now we just need to grab Quinten Post at 54 today!  ;D

Why would you trade a reliable rotation guy for an unknown? Take away PP you weaken the team for next season.

while i agree, we can't overlook the other weakness on this team. if kp is injured (he already is), we can't just assume horford will handle the load for yet another year. anything beyond them is really an unknown. so we have an unknown either way. the question is whether it is more difficult to replace pritchard or to replace the kp/horford minutes if one of them is down. i think the opportunity to find a big is more rare. i'm not sold that edey is more of a liability than other bigs like kornet/queta (celtics alternatives) or some other centers in the league that find meaningful minutes like brook lopez, valanciunas etc. even gobert has always struggled on the perimeter but has been a net positive as a defense-first guy. tillman is a better defensive option, but edey has more offensive upside. idk. i don't think it's clear that pritchard and #30 is better than edey as a backup when kp is down and as a third big when both kp and horford are healthy. especially when you consider the cost of whoever is at #30 vs the cost of a better producer at #18.

basically i'm searching for that third big and i don't see him. edey would at least be a chance at that.
i agree with your logic on needed another big man for the next season. but i dont think this draft is going to produce one that can contribute meaningfully next season.

maybe a vet. maybe tillman.

Oso Ighodaro, maybe?

i don't know anything about him but the scouting report is that he's an excellent passer (particularly finding cutters), can score in the post (especially in mistmatches), good screener and good defensively. the knock is that he's not a great athlete, but seems like a good one. video clips seem to back up all of the above. kid looks like a candidate to be a horford disciple.

edit: he's got an ugly shot. not sure how effective it is but he's probably a non-shooter to start out. otherwise he looks like a big man hybrid of jalen johnson/trace jackson-davis stylistically. a bit skinny for a big guy. i can easily see him being better than jackson-davis as a floor. not bad at #54 and a potential team need.

Wanted Filipowski, bit Scheierman is fine
I did too. I guess there are major concerns about Filipowski's size and role at the next level. He has the size of like an average PF (he may be 6'11 but he has t rex arms) but doesn't really have the lateral quickness to even try and be a PF.

He's very slow-footed.  He'll never be able to guard the quicker 4s like Tatum.

And he's too weak to guard centers.  I really can't see him exceeding defensively in the NBA.

It's no secret but I like Quinten Post over a tweener like Filipowski.

No surprise Ainge took Filipowski.  He's had a good draft.

Guys I wouldn't mind at 54, at least amongst guys who have any chance of still being there:

Quinten Post
Ulrich Chomche
Adam Bona
Osaseri Ighorado

I'd take any of those guys if there still there. There will also be some undrafted guys that I hope Brad has on speed dial....

Tyler Kolek to the Knicks is a solid pick.

Which network is broadcasting the 2nd round?
EDIT: Got it, ESPN
