It took me a few years to pick this up, but one of the interesting things is that it is clear there is good organizational unity around the narrative for the Celtics team each year.
I say "narrative" but you could say "direction" or "vision" too.
All the players seem to be unified and bought in each year. In the championship season, the talk was all about the championship and rising to new heights. In the defending season, it was about defending their championship. Last year it was that no one would put a ceiling on that team, even without Jrue-Zinger-Horford-Tatum.
This year it is about "let's see what we have." It feels very much like the leadership is trying to keep things open for success or pivoting into the future. Stevens likes this team. Probably not as much as the championship team, but you can tell by the way he talks he likes this team. But the narrative or direction is that this is a brand new team with a new identity. Sure, there are returning players, but every year is different and we have to see what we have.
Not terribly interesting, but I do think it demonstrates strong leadership in the organization when the players and coaches and GMs all seem to be talking the same way and bought-in.
