One-time top recruit Charles Bassey was a star for the Boston Celtics in Summer League.
He isn't sticking around to see if he gets a contract offer. Bassey is heading overseas.
Eurohoops reports that Bassey has several European teams interested in him, but he's leaning toward signing with KK Partizan in Serbia.
?Charles is honored by the interest shown by Basketball Club Partizan,? his agent Mark McNeil told Meridian Sport. ?He is definitely considering the offer and will continue discussions with the club and his representative. Other European clubs have also contacted him, but Partizan has been his priority.?
If Bassey?s short-term goal was to get a decent pro contract you have to hand it to him. Came in and immediately established himself as the most ready player on the court. He didn?t play to the level of competition- played his game and displayed pro ready talent. Maybe not NBA rotation talent but he can work his way there with a good European experience - and hopefully for him a good payday.
Yep. Smart move by him and his agent.
Admittedly, I somewhat wish he was on our roster, because I think he's at at least the same skill level as our existing centers.
Same. I like the potential of both Queta and Garza, either one could surprise us and be a quality starting center. But Bassey seems like a guy who already has one high level skill: rebounding. Having one thing you can do really well is important and might be underrated in today's NBA where diversity of skill is more important. Having a diverse game is certainly important, but being elite at one thing is often more impactful.
