After the game, which the Celtics lost 100-96, Walsh took responsibility for his actions.

It was a dumb decision, Walsh admitted. I low-key forgot I got the first tech. I also remembered that don?t nobody really hit anybody in the NBA. So I really didn?t have no reason to attack him but I thought that it was dumb.

It was a rookie mistake, immature for me to do it, he added. Can?t let it happen again.

Mazzulla, watching the game in the crowd as Boston continues to move through its summer schedule, expressed support for his player even amid the ejection according to Walsh.

Yeah [Mazzulla] told me he loved it, Walsh said, per Boston Globe reporter Gary Washburn. He was texting me like, I love this out of you.'

Of course, Mazzulla may not represent the opinion of every part of Celtics management.

Joe liked it. Don?t know if Brad liked it, Walsh quipped of Stevens, who had been in the front row. We?ll see what happens.

Walsh was busy prior to his second technical. Along with the fouls, he notched 13 points, three rebounds, and a steal in 10 minutes of play. He noted that teams have been playing him in a more physical style, but that he needs to manage his intensity in a more productive way.

I was kind of letting it slide but at the same time, I should have known better than to take it to that next level, Walsh said of Miami?s style. I knew better than that. But for sure, I don?t want to be no pushover, I don?t want to let somebody roll over for me.

If Joe praised Jordan?s actions I think that?s an idiotic response from the head coach.  Walsh?s comments in this article are reasonable.  Joe doesn?t need to pile onto Jordan if Walsh understands his mistakes and acknowledges his own immaturity.  Joe can tell Jordan he likes his energy, his toughness, the nice start to the game - but to praise the senseless pushes that got him ejected, it?s just stupid to praise that.  Tell Jordan this is a growth experience - learning how to keep the lid on when things get heated.  If you?re in the locker room you can?t help the team.  I get that Joe likes the spunk - but praising the Ts in this situation I think is ridiculous.   But Joe knows Jordan and I don?t and maybe Joe was thinking that was what Jordan needed to hear from him.

I disagree.  You caveated at the end, I suppose, but at the end of the day it is summer league.  I am sure Joe loved the energy and fire that led to the Ts, and would rather see more of that fire from Jordan than worry about a technical foul or two.  As Danny Ainge said of Marcus Smart at the draft combine: ?I?d much rather try to calm a player down than try to light a fire under somebody.?  Same applies here.

I like the emotion and energy from Jordan. And for someone like him who has really been more of a passenger it is nice to see and I?m sure something the Celtics like to see is a bit of that.

However I hope the message from Joe was delivered in a good way. Hope it wasn?t like a love that fighter mentality only stuff. But more of a way obviously how important it is to be aware of the circumstances in the game and knowing you already had one technical foul. With that being said that is the type of energy and aggressiveness we want to see from you blah blah blah.

We will never know what was said exactly and in the end none of this will probably matter anyways.

You can read into it that way, I interpreted it as he liked seeing his competitive nature come out. Jordan seems like he?s typically low key, so it was a different side of him that maybe Joe hadn?t seen. Obviously forgetting that you already had a tech, which resulted in an ejection was dumb, but it?s good to see that Jordan has some dog in him.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I think Hugo needs to develop and hit the gym hard.  He is still a teenager and it showed when he played vs. grown men. He struggled with the physicality of the HEAT.

I found his claim that Joe liked dubious.  Joe is an aggressive guy with a black belt in Brazilian Ju-Jistu.    Was he really that impressed by a guy pushing a guy, and backing off as quick as possible?   It was a dumb play, immature, and he is very young.   But quit the poser tough guy act.  I am sure Joe would have been happy if he protected a team mate from others with a push.   But a push out of nowhere for little reason was silly.  Walsh loves attention, he got in every finals game photo or shot.   There was no basketball reason for this push. So I did not like the play but I did like the pick by one of our guys who crushed the other team.

I don't think Joe praised him is there proof besides Walsh's  claim.   I would imagine that one would get a call from the league encouraging this kind of behavior.

I still like what I have seen in Bassey.   I know John Karalis was bad mouthing him being out of position the one play but at some point in any game you're going to be out of position.   I know the other team is shooting like 6% less in FG when he is in the game after the first two games.   But I doubt we sign him, I hope I am wrong.   He plays hard but is very old school in terms of his playstyle.

But we are literally tanking via the center position and power forward position as it stands right now.

I don't know, man.  He's fighting for a roster spot.  Publicly lying about something that the head coach did or didn't say would be extraordinarily stupid.

Yup - very very easy for the coach to praise the fire, the aggressiveness, the competitiveness, etc. without praising the actions that got him 2 techs almost back to back.  Talk to him about channeling the aggression, using it to fire himself and teammates up to play strong, tough, with energy.  But Jordan seemed to indicate that Joe was praising the actions that got the Ts.  If so, I just think that?s a dumb coaching move with an impressionable player. But as I said earlier, Joe knows better than me what Jordan needs from a coach.

He probably did say something like that.  If we take Walsh?s saying a direct quote and not a paraphrase from memory, I love this out of you in a text is still a message from a coach to a player that has an entire history behind it, and maybe even more texts that detail what he means by ?this? if Walsh didn?t know himself already.

If Walsh starts getting ejected every game, sure, we can come back to this moment.  More likely he will not get enough minutes for it to matter, and in either case, most likely he will not rack up two technicals all next season, much less in a single game.

I, for one, don?t understand the angst around this.

There's a lot of consternation about a player that has not figured out how to make an impact in the NBA over two years yet. He's at a make-or-break point now. Why are we upset when the coach is pushing him to make a difference?

In general not very upset about it at all and definitely not upset about the coach pushing him.  The original reaction was just to Walsh?s perception that coach loved what he did.  Very possible that Joe nuanced it and said he loved the fire etc but not the excess that brought the techs.

I think it is pretty clear that the overall aggressiveness is good but getting Techs is not.  Walsh's post game comments essentially said this.  I am quite sure coach Mazzulla would say the same thing also.  There is nothing to this.  Walsh was dumb to get the second Tech (maybe the first one too).  He knows this (and said this), Mazzulla knows this.
