Jay King: Brad Stevens said a couple of times today that the Celtics are limited with trade resources. He did mention they will be looking for another big wing, but said that could come from within as well. – via Twitter ByJayKing

Ultimately, I think it worked out well for the C's. Ainge was a great GM for us and set us up nicely with the Tatum + Brown selections, but it was still frustrating whenever he stood pat at trade deadlines, whiffed on non Top-5 1st rounders, didn't make the major moves to put us over the top, and some seasons even neglected to really invest in frontcourt talent (Amir Johnson, Zeller, Mickey, Sullinger, I mean come on...). I know he tried with Kyrie, and also with trying to add the likes of Durant over the years but unfortunately it didn't really pan out.

Stevens has been amazing and aggressive in that regard. Obviously still waiting for Banner 18, but we're set up nicely to hopefully do so. Ainge got us 2008, but it feels like we should have had more in the span since. A change felt needed. We lucked out though that CBS has been an awesome GM though.

wonder why he wanted out? then again the team looked bleak at that time. just got demolished in the ECF, no defense, no horford, kemba walker looking cooked...

overall though I think it was time.

Danny did an amazing job for us. but at the end I think his reputation as wanting to "win every deal" and his obsession with hoarding "assets" hurt us.

he was good at getting the assets, but never wanted to part with anything....thats been the biggest difference between him/brad.

that team he left brad stevens with was so disjointed. let horford go, ghost of kemba walker. brad stevens trimmed alot of the roster.


i'm also not sure danny makes the trades for Derrick white, KP and Jrue holiday.

Ainge had a long personal relationship with the Jazz ownership and it pretty openly discussed in the press that if Ainge left the Cs he would land in Utah in short order.

He is a Mormon from Utah, I think it is as simple as that.

Ainge did do a good job but just like coaches lose their voice with the team at some point, maybe it was a good time for a change in GM/President/Whatever.  Stevens has taken the Celtics to another level with the deals he as done.  He seems willing to give up more to get the guy he wants.

With Ainge, it seemed more like he was just trying to win deals, but he made plenty of really good deals.  The trade with PHI for Tatum was epic.  He was saved from himself with Justise Winslow (assuming it was all true).  But overall, a really good run.

I love Danny Ainge...loved his tenure with the C's.  Of my 3 or so least favorite moves...#1 was the trade for Kyrie.

Reasons:

 --Hayward is a facilitator.  You had just nabbed him to pass the ball to Brown and Tatum.  And to score.  A vet presence.
 --chemistry was great, so along with the Hayward thing now suddenly Rozier is deepish bench...
 --The C's were rich and getting richer, with great success at an incredibly young age.  A feel good team in all ways.
 --I.T. had just done amazing things and loved the C's and bled for them.  If he's hurt...pay him less (tricky situation)
 --the 8th pick as part of being a super rich team.  SGA available. 

Mostly hindsight....but  I certainly hated the deal at the time.

The #2 least favorite move of Ainge was to not resign Posey.  Not sure if that was him or ownership..but it seemed insane to me.

Pretty confident he misses Monday he doesnt seem the type that plays through anything. I like KP but his ability to just play through stuff is very Euroesque. He'll say team wants him to rest out of a bundance of caution.

Which I agree with KP. Doesn't make sense to have him play through a regular season game. I'm more worried about the playoffs. He'll need to play through injuries during playoffs.
