Shams dropping more on a potential Jaylen Brown trade:

?Majority of Boston?s conversations have been with Western Conference teams. Portland has had a lot of interest in Jaylen Brown ? and they have a ton of draft capital.?

I have no idea what they would give Boston for Brown. But why didn't Portland just be the 3rd team in the Giannis deal? They could have given the Bucks back their picks and got Brown.

Does Portland have anything Boston wants? I am not interested in a dung platter of Scoot Henderson, sharpe and Grant nor their bust of a pick from last year. I do not see how picks are any help unless they are attached to physical bodies that boston needs to stay in the hunt in the East.

If Portland is giving up a ton of draft capital, I think they end up keeping their young up and coming stars.

So ... I think it will be draft capital or up and coming stars. Or maybe less draft capital + less up and comers.

(1) Draft capital trade = say 4 1st rounders with Jerami Grant's contract as a makeweight and whatever other salary filler they need to add. Maybe Thybulle.

(2) Young players trade = S Sharpe & Clingan with cap filler (J Grant) for Jaylen with no picks.

(3) Combination of young players & picks = No Clingan. You can get Shaedon Sharpe + 3 firsts. Or maybe Shaedon & Scott + 2 first round picks.

The one I am least convinced of POR offering is the one involving D Clingan. So the 2nd option. The 1st or 3rd options look the most likely offers to me.

I could talk myself into Scoot. Not as the primary piece/best asset coming back in a trade, but as an upside swing.

I don't see why the Cs would do a Blazer trade without Clingan.

Clingan/Grant would be an attractive base. Clingan is the long term solution at the 5, Grant a band-aid replacement for Brown.

Those MIL picks are very valuable

2028 = swap with MIL
2029 = best and worst pick of MIL, BOS, POR
2030 = swap with MIL

2031-33 = POR's own picks

Milwaukee looks terrible right now. Those are likely 3 lottery picks in the next 3 years.

Portland can make an attractive offer without Clingan if BOS is indeed accepting rebuilding offers which is appears they are based on Shams' reporting.

I am listening to a podcast / interview with Sherrod Blakeney and Gary Washburn from yesterday talking about the Jaylen situation.

Gary Washburn thought this would be a major black eye for Celtics organization if they traded away Jaylen Brown. With everything Jaylen has done for the team over 10 years, to trade him now would be remembered as a black mark against the team for years to come.

I mean they traded away Pierce, Smart, KG and those guys did a ton for the organization. This is about business and the Celtics do not want 2 max contracts that continue to balloon with every extension.

 I agree.  I don't think it's a black eye at all.  First of all, we have no idea about conversations that have been had behind closed doors.  This is easily explained if Brad and Jaylen have been talking and Jaylen is open to being traded or prefers being traded. How would that be a black eye if there is mutual interest in a trade?   And even without that, Brad may be doing what is best for the organization in the long run. And by long run, it may be 2-3 years down the road, not ten.  C's have a number of teams ahead of them at the moment who are only getting better - especially OKC and SA.  The team might be focused on the money because they see loosening of the payroll as the only pathway toward winning a championship.

I disagree. I think it will be remembered in 10 years, in 20 years, maybe in 30s years.

Jaylen is different to Pierce and KG because Jaylen is in his prime. Those guys weren't. Marcus Smart is not comparable because he is nowhere near the talent of Jaylen. He did not just finish 6th in MVP voting. He was not 2nd Team All-NBA. He did not have several All-Star selections.

This is a different type of trade. It is one thing to get back a top talent like Giannis but if you are not bringing back a top talent ... if you are dumping Jaylen in a rebuilding trade ...

This is the type of deal that could bite not just for years to come but for decades to come. The deal people talk about as ruining a Franchise.

I am firmly in the camp of just keeping him, trying to move Sam and signing needs in FA.

This is getting way too hard.

It might be remembered decades from now, but there will be different management here in 10 years (almost assuredly).

New GMs usually get a fresh slate when it comes to the impressions of potential free agents signees-- which honestly, that's the only area where sour feelings might be felt.
