I'm glad to see more people coming out against the refs lately. Toronto's coach did it last night.

Seriously, what a joke this product and refereeing has become.

The league has to get the Lakers into the playoffs. Too much lost revenue if they don't make it.

It's a well-known fact Joey Crawford was pushed out of the league by Silver because the Lakers didn't make it to the playoffs for three consecutive seasons ('13-16). After Crawford's retirement, the Lakers continued to miss the postseason for three additional seasons, which caused the NBA to trigger the COVID-19 outbreak in their emerging Chinese market, which lead to the bubble season and LA's latest championship.

These are just facts.

Seriously, what a joke this product and refereeing has become.

Not that anyone needs to have a solution ready when they point out a problem, but do you have any ideas on how the refereeing might be improved across the league?

My number one thing would be to have officiating crews that work together for an entire season, instead of rotating through each other.  On the closest plays, communication between officials about what they each saw is important, and if you’re working together all season that communication will likely be better.

I would make sure that replays overturn the original call ONLY if there is clear evidence. I did not see clear evidence that Hield did not hit Brown's head.

But I don't think that that was the original call.  They were looking at whether he hit the ball or the arm, so in that sense they made the correct change, but we've seen replays turn up new cans of worms in challenged calls plenty of times.  Not sure why, in this case, they didn't look at the secondary issue or the resulting possession more closely.

Wow, with his durability record, this seems like insanity.  He is a great player and continues to be great when he is on the court but he is averaging 55 games the last 4 seasons and only 9 games 5 seasons ago.  32 of 46 so far this season (on pace for 57 games).  So are they just conceding that they will expect 50 regular season games and hope he can play in the playoffs?

Wow, with his durability record, this seems like insanity.  He is a great player and continues to be great when he is on the court but he is averaging 55 games the last 4 seasons and only 9 games 5 seasons ago.  32 of 46 so far this season (on pace for 57 games).  So are they just conceding that they will expect 50 regular season games and hope he can play in the playoffs?

Kawhi would be 32 of 36, not 46. Thats a 73 game pace.

Coincidence that he's playing the most games he has for a long while in a contract year? Probably not.

Interesting enough had Kawhi waited till the summer, he could have gotten more money if the cap goes up like being projected, so as strange as it sounds, he took a discount doing it now.

The cap isn’t expected to go up as much this year, and will likely come in a little below where it had been projected this past summer because of the issues with the RSNs held by Diamond Sports Group.  They’ve cut the amount they’re paying and even missed payments.  It’s not likely to be much of a discount.  Jaylen’s salary might come in a little lower as well, since it too is tied to the cap.

Yeah, I was wondering about how this might affect how much he plays the rest of the year, too. He’s been pretty much an Ironman this year, but that may be due to him trying to prove his durability for this contract. Without that motivation there, let’s see if he continues to play as much.

The 65 game requirement for NBA awards/All-NBA could be a motivation, too, but doubt it’s as much motivation as a $50+ M per year contract.

Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in awhile! The vanilla Mark Blount, if you will.

It is also silly. Reaves is averaging basically 15/4.5/6 with a 60.6TS%.  He is a bad defender, but he is perfectly fine as a 3rd offensive option with solid all around skills.

Reaves is a big reason the Lakers are .500 despite monster season from Davis and good health and performance from Lebron. For every basket he scores efficiently he gives one up. He can't be your third best palyer.
