Some random in-season tournament thoughts from yesterday's games:

Golden State got a pretty normal looking court for the in-season tournament.  That floor looked like an ugly doodoo brown in the preview, but looked like a normal court (save for the middle) when watching highlights of the scuffle.

The Raptors have yet to play a game, while Memphis 0-3 has already been eliminated from the tournament, and 6 other teams (OKC, DAL, LAC, DET, WAS, SA) are 0-2 or 1-2 and alive only in theory (according to Hollinger's math), this seems a little unbalanced and IMO doesn't help the tournament's momentum.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I was just watching some highlights, and my god that Sixers court is absolutely hideous. Jesus...

That's disappointing. I know he's not an ideal matchup against some of the East's elite, but we needed some big man depth and someone to eat minutes in the regular season + he knows the system here

I watched the last 5min last night and I have to agree with you, the court is really ugly.

For all these courts, outside the lines should be a different color or just natural hardwood.

Yeah, that's my biggest pet peeve (outside of just hating them in general)

ESPN Sources: Veteran center Daniel Theis has agreed on a contract buyout with the Indiana Pacers and now plans to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers assuming he clears waivers. Clippers recently lost backup C Mason Plumlee to a sprained MCL for several weeks.

Huge bummer. Thought we had a chance with him.

I think Plumlee getting hurt really screwed us, as that opened up alot of playing time for him, which he isn’t going to pass up.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Wonder if Brad took a pass, or Theis preferred Clippers....

The Clippers have immediate minutes to offer him.  They’ve been playing their 2-way big double digit minutes the last two games, and Plumlee is out until January at the earliest.  Theis is giving up money so he can get on the court, not sit on the bench as he’s been doing.

Odd…

Surveillance footage recovered so far in the alleged hit-and-run that injured 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. shows no evidence that a crash occurred at the Center City intersection where Oubre reported being hit on Saturday night, police said. “The Police Department currently does not have any video or photographic evidence that depicts this collision,” Sgt. Eric Gripp, a department spokesperson, said Wednesday. “We continue to work in hopes of gathering evidence and we encourage anyone who has information to reach out to our crash investigation unit.”

Two employees of businesses near the reported crash site told The Inquirer they reviewed roughly two hours of footage from that evening on their work surveillance systems and did not see the crash. They asked to remain anonymous due to the high-profile nature of the case. Gripp emphasized that police have not accused Oubre of anything and the investigation is ongoing. But the lack of immediate visual evidence confirming the crash on a well-trafficked downtown street raises questions about the information Oubre provided to police. A source familiar with the situation said that Oubre may not have provided an accurate account of where the crash allegedly occurred. – via Max Marin, Ximena Conde, Keith Pompey @ The Philadelphia Inquirer

This is why having so many injury-prone and one old guy (Horford) hurt us earlier in the offseason. We wanted depth because Rob and Brogdon were injury risks and Horford was old. However, technically they all still held rotation spots if healthy and we couldn't guarantee a clear path to minutes for the best minimum-salary free agents to feel comfortable signing.

I'm sure if the Celtics reached out, Theis was like, well I'm technically only the third center there so really I'd be playing as much as Kornet does, which is not every game. Also, the Clippers having a crazy-rich owner increases the odds Theis is re-signed just to keep the contract on the books for trade purposes, whereas in Boston that's not necessarily a sure thing. This is a good play by Theis both in restoring his on-court value and helping ensure he won't be one of those UFAs considering minimum deals in free agency next summer.
